Dwarf Fortress Sells Big on Steam

A tweet from Tanya X. Short of publisher Kitfox Games reveals the long-running grassroots success of Dwarf Fortress extends to the new edition on Steam. In a tweet last week she shared the discussion of whether the game would sell 160,000 copies in its first two months. A new tweet reveals it hit this milestone in the first 24 hours after launching on Tuesday. Here's word:
welp, we hit that in under 24 hours. hooray for Dwarf Fortress fans and hooray for Tarn and Zach's brilliance! (and thanks to you too, Steam algorithm!)

Looked at the game, I'm not knocking it or the devs, congrats to them, but the game just does not look all that good or interesting.
I know you are big on coop, which DF doesn't have. IMO, the biggest draw is the emergent gameplay and lack of predictability. Just read some of the Steam reviews to get an idea.

My wife and I play pseudo-co-op, in which she and I share the experience of playing together, watching each other fail, sharing stories about failure, and advising each other on how to do things like break through aquifers or build complex machines. It's a better overall cooperative experience than in most building games which generally involve never-ending defense combat.
