A new
interview on Eurogamer.net hears from CD PROJEKT RED designer Philipp Weber
about the fate of multiplayer support for Cyberpunk 2077. Back
in 2013(!) it was announced
that the sci-fi RPG would include multiplayer, which later morphed into a plan
to release an entire separate multiplayer Cyberpunk 2077 game. Then
in 2019
it was announced that multiplayer support would be added in a post-release
update. In 2020 it was announced
this would come sometime after 2021. A roadmap published in
January 2021 worryingly had no mention of
multiplayer support. A couple months later
came word that the
company was "reconsidering" this altogether. "Previously we hinted that our next
AAA would be a multiplayer Cyberpunk game, but we have decided to reconsider
this plan," Joint CEO Adam Kiciński explains. "Given our new, more systematic,
and agile approach, instead of primarily focusing on one big online experience,
or game, we are focusing on bringing online into all of our franchises one day."
This brings us to this
new interview, which confirms that the multiplayer plan is dead, and that
the game's rocky launch was indeed to blame:
"We really needed to look at what were the priorities for Cyberpunk [after it launched]," Philipp Weber told me when I visited the studio last week. Weber was senior quest designer and coordinator on Cyberpunk 2077. Today, he's acting narrative director of the new Witcher game codenamed Polaris.
"The priority was that the main experience will run for the people in a really good state," he said. "And essentially, the switch of priorities meant that other R&D projects had to go away. With Cyberpunk, we wanted to do many things at the same time, and we just needed to really focus and say, 'Okay, what's the important part? Yeah, we will make that part really good.'"

Never played FemShep but this is the reason i did female V is because people said FemShep was best shep for acting and I was like "Ok let's try it on cyberpunk"
The ending of that game messed with my brain for a while.. Not the endings I was hoping for.

Also, somehow I never heard that there was supposed to be MP? Like, I completely missed it, so this was the first I had heard of it.

Myself, I feel consistently more endeared to female heroines, though will choose males if available. Feel more carefree and not so responsible for protecting male heroes.
Must be having a daughter.
But next time I play M.E. I will choose FemSheppard: my baby (?, 35 soon) raves about her.
I adored Male Shep. Would never replay as Fem! Huge fan of Cassandra from Assassins Creed Odyssey! She was a 💯 times better than the male version!

My cousin and I both bounced off this game at least twice each, and we both finished Witcher 3. I'll be super happy to have a single player experience we can actually enjoy.

CP2077 was an assets test for a "GTA online" type game that if successful would have made CDPR the richest people in Poland. Thats why the game has such awesome clothing on the NPC's - it was all about generating items that could be sold online for real money.

The only thing that would interest me would be co-op so I could run with my own crew. But general PvP style multiplayer? Meh. Hard pass.

I would put my vote in for no multiplayer in any of their titles if they can deliver solid single player experiences. I for one do not care about multiplayers at my age and would be fine if I never played one again in my future. That said, I know there are plenty who do enjoy multiplayer, but I mean there are SOOO many other titles you can choose from with multi. Have at it with those while you leave developers who do something good putting all their efforts and resources into that.
Excellent news. They got their plate more than full with the three Witcher games that they want to deliver within six years (yeah, LOL) and with the Cyberpunk sequels. They have zero experience with multiplayer so it seems like a sound and wise decision to focus on delivering strong narrative-driven single player games (maybe even with less bugs on release than all of their previous games).
Not sure if Coop was part of this, if so then that's very disappointing, but if it was some hand me down PVP then so be it, let it die.

I think originally they planned CP to be another GTA style game but they realized that was not going to happen.

Pity for those who enjoy MP.
