With OpenShell not working on Win11, I just stopped using the start menu. I didn't use it much before, but now it's almost never, so it was pointless to spend money on an alternative like Start11. Pretty much everything can be opened using run (WIN + R) and/or search (WIN + S).

As far as sleep mode is concerned, it's always been a shit-show regardless of which mode or version of Windows. I've never used it.

Thank goodness for Stardock's Start11. Since it looks like Open Shell will never work properly with Win11,
Disappointing to hear, I guess I'll make a note of Stardock for when the horrid day comes that I have to use Win11.

I've been following Open Shell's author's posts on Github. He's a one man band, and didn't write the original code himself, he just forked the original Classic Shell. It's been easy for him to maintain patches for changes in Win10, but Win11 removed APIs that it relies on, so he'd have to do a complete rewrite and he just doesn't have the time or resources for it. Some people have managed to hack it to work on Win11, but it IS a hack, and some features aren't working.

Start10 and 11 are solid products, I've used them on friend's and client's PCs. They are also reasonably priced with a one time license. $7 for a single PC, $15 for 5 PCs, and you can move the license.
I've been using replacement start menus since Windows 8, Mainly Classic Shell.
But on my Windows 10 box I put Start 11 on it and I've had no issues.

Of course MicroShite want you to switch. They need to sell your data from our once personal computers.

Ya, as I mentioned in another post, sleep mode has been a cluster fuck, and not just S0. I've had plenty of issues with S3. There is zero reason to have sleep enabled in a desktop, and I would argue you don't need it at all on a laptop either. It had more value back when we were still on spinning rust drives,

For desktops, modern CPUs and chipsets throttle power usage down to very minimum amounts when the system is in idle.

For laptops, I see no real use case for sleep mode on systems with SSDs - especially modern ones with M.2 drives. Cold boot times are just seconds nowadays, and hibernation is even faster if you need to retain whatever you were doing.

----
Thank goodness for Stardock's Start11. Since it looks like Open Shell will never work properly with Win11, I'll be buying a license for it when I'm forced to move to Win11 someday, but right now Win10 works fine and is pretty stable now that MS is not releasing any major updates for it anymore.

It's not that Win11 is utter trash. It's basically Win10 at it's core, but I despise Microsoft's attempts to make the OS more than it is: Just an OS. It's absurd that you have to go through major hoops to setup a Win11 system as a local user.

I've been an early adopter of every Windows version since 2.0 - except Windows ME and Windows 11. W11 removed very useful Start menu features and replaced it with a Fisher-Price dumbed-down smartphone menu, complete with extra advertising. No thanks.

And yes, they patched out the EXISTING options out of W10 !!!!
Not out of my PC they haven't. First, I'd have to allow them to do an update.

Microsoft is trying another push to get people to switch to Windows 11.
They shot themselves in the foot with the Windows 11 hardware requirements. Its install base is never going to be as high as Windows 10.

They shot themselves even more with FORCING advanced modern standby (s0 sleep, instead of S3 sleep), see LinusTechTips latest rant on it. I can personally attest this is a killer argument, would NEVER advise anyone to buy a laptop with windows on it. (like wholesale, W10 and W11)

Yeah, my work laptop has this issue and took me a long time to figure out the problem. The fact that their market share lets them get away with adding things that user don't want and neglect everything that user want (fixed) is getting old and tired. It has to end
