Out of the Blue

Today is National No Bra Day here in the U.S. This is not just about comfort or pokies, as this is intended to raise awareness about breast cancer. I'm pretty sure there's already a great deal of awareness out there, as so many people have had the disease affect their families. This includes me, as it took my mom almost 20 years ago. I only wear bras on special occasions, myself, so I'll share this here to do my part.

Awareness Round-up

So have people forgotten COVID is still a thing? My doc recommended I get another jab before summer, but I was unable to get one. None of the pharmacies had them or would make appointments for them. Finally the county health center here started taking appointments for the newly approved booster. They only do them on Thursday, so I've had to wait a few weeks until I had a free Friday in case it makes me feel like crap the next day. I'm hoping it doesn't, but if the trend continues I'll be down for half the day tomorrow. My first shot did nothing, the second I felt a little crappy for about half the next day. My third shot, like the second, put me down for half of the next day, but I felt much worse, had a low fever and some nausea.
i got my bivalent vaccine right after labor day, drove to the next state to get the moderna one. my staff is vaccinated as well. no one had any reactions.

i keep a languid eye on case counts, and in my county they're in the low 20s. about 100 for the state - lowest since june 2020. i haven't worn a mask in the grocery store or gym in months.

covid is indeed a thing to be aware of, but for the moment unless you have extraordinary circumstances most people could really stand to put this weight down.

I got my second booster a bit late (19 Aug) so I have been waiting to get the new reformulated one. It will be interesting to see if I run into similar issues...

Same here and had similar past reactions, so took off work tomorrow in case I'm down for awhile also.. but have some other plans if end up feeling fine after all.
Doing some traveling in Nov., so wanted to get the new booster before then, but other than that don't see much concern these days.

The death sentence is still a thing in the US? How quaint...

One more thing to add to the long list of strange obsolete things from the 19th century they still do I guess?
We did get rid of it, then "we" changed our minds. I don't see it going away in my lifetime.

And life sentence isn't something most countries that are up to date on the best practices still do either. There's usually an upper limit with an emphasis on treatment rather than counter-productive punishment. Results clearly show that the outcomes are much better that way.
Treatment? It happens here and there but it is not a major component of the US "corrections" system.

That talion law ( from the latin "lex talionis" or "law of retaliation" ) tribal mentality really ought to die a quick death seeing as it is inherently counter-productive, leading to worse outcomes.
Tribal mentality seems to be the just about the only thing the US leads the world in these days....

Actually, I knew that -- just didn't remember it when I was posting. Still I admit it galls me to have to pay to continue his existence.

17 people are not coming back no matter what... prevention is always better... but if ya can't prevent it, then the punishment shouldn't have an easy way out either
