So have people forgotten COVID is still a thing? My doc recommended I get another jab before summer, but I was unable to get one. None of the pharmacies had them or would make appointments for them. Finally the county health center here started taking appointments for the newly approved booster. They only do them on Thursday, so I've had to wait a few weeks until I had a free Friday in case it makes me feel like crap the next day. I'm hoping it doesn't, but if the trend continues I'll be down for half the day tomorrow. My first shot did nothing, the second I felt a little crappy for about half the next day. My third shot, like the second, put me down for half of the next day, but I felt much worse, had a low fever and some nausea.

The death sentence is still a thing in the US? How quaint...
One more thing to add to the long list of strange obsolete things from the 19th century they still do I guess?
And life sentence isn't something most countries that are up to date on the best practices still do either. There's usually an upper limit with an emphasis on treatment rather than counter-productive punishment. Results clearly show that the outcomes are much better that way.Treatment? It happens here and there but it is not a major component of the US "corrections" system.
That talion law ( from the latin "lex talionis" or "law of retaliation" ) tribal mentality really ought to die a quick death seeing as it is inherently counter-productive, leading to worse outcomes.Tribal mentality seems to be the just about the only thing the US leads the world in these days....

While I would agree a lifetime in prison is worse than a quick death, I'm not completely sold on the idea of having to pay his living expenses for the next however many decades. There is not a "good" solution.

Imagine going to prison for life at 24 years of age? I'd rather be dead. I suppose it's a personal preference
