Out of the Blue

Today is (more or less) the 20th anniversary of the launch of No One Lives Forever 2: A Spy in H.A.R.M.'s Way. The Wikipedia Entry for the game lists an October 1, 2002 North American release date. But our archived story on this is from October 2nd, so that's what we'll go with. To celebrate, our desktop view now proudly displays Walter "2" Costinak's logo based on the game. Thank you to Steve for updating the logo for our current format.

Was dissappointed there were no timelord nor aquatic mammal -related content behind this link.

Ah, the No One Lives Forever series. Two games I wish someone could untangle the rights mess to, so that they could either end up on GoG or get a modernized version a la Nightdive. I may need to go replay them now. Thanks for the nostalgia hit!

I've had these installed for awhile--they run fine in Win10/11. I haven't seen anything fishy about them, yet...seem fine. the site has been up for years, so apparently no one is claiming copyright.

Okay, I'd love to replay these classics. I looked into that link Walt gave us. Seems legit. They covered it on RockPaperShotgun.com:

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/no-one-will-sell-no-one-lives-forever-so-lets-download-it

Some anonymous heroes are not only risking the wraths of all involved by distributing both games, for free, but are putting out patched versions that'll run on your snazzy new PC, even in resolutions like 3440x1440 - I know, cos I just played it like that. And gosh, NOLF2 looks good in HD!

Going to get myself some NOLF love tonight! Thanks Walt!
That’s been mentioned here before. Both have worked fine for me.

Hmm. Direct HTTP download redirects to a sketchy Torrent link but the Mega download works. Ran the NOLF installer through VirusTotal and it passes, but use at your own risk.

I remember when I saw/played an early preview of NOLF at Monolith. That was mind blowing, but the released NOLF/NOLF2 games ended up being some of my favorite of all time. In fact, I mentioned NOLF in an interview for a gaming related position at CompUSA (remember those?). I recall reading stuff that indicates there is zero chance of a new NOLF (or even making it available online), which is very sad.

NOLF and NOLF2 were two of the best FPS in my growing up years on the PC. Awesome action and funny Austin Power vibes to the dialogues. Had a blast with those games. I truly wish either someone could make a part 3 or we get a remaster of the classics. They were a blast (literally).

Walter "2" Costinak's logo stands out as a particularly sweet one. It’s great that they have been modded to work on today’s internet.

I've got boxed versions of both games (and of Contract J.A.C.K.), so I'm good there. I use both Modernizer patches and DGVoodoo2 to handle graphics issues, so I've had no problems with the games or being able to jump into multiplayer games.

My main thing is that having a version of each game available on GOG would make it easier to have it more widely known and promoted.

2 utterly fantastic games. We need them back! I think one of my favorite scenes was in NOLF2 and you could listen to 2 guards talking while you were sneaking on the roof of a warehouse. I think their conversation went on for over 5 minutes of full VO and you just could sit there and listen. Only thing stopping it was either attacking or leaving.

NOLF - please come back. Please. Ms. Archer, you are needed more than ever. I want the easy Swingin' Sixties back and offer even two decades (the 2010s and 2020s) in exchange.
