We recently suffered a network intrusion in which an unauthorized third party illegally accessed and downloaded confidential information from our systems, including early development footage for the next Grand Theft Auto. At this time we do not anticipate any disruption to our live game services nor any long-term effect on the development of our ongoing project.
We are extremely disappointed to have any details of our next game shared with you all in this way. Our work on the next Grand Theft Auto game will continue as planned and we remain as committed as ever to delivering an experience to you, our players, that truly exceeds your expectations. We will update everyone again soon and, of course, will properly introduce you to this next game when it's ready. We want to thank everyone for their ongoing support through this situation.

So yes, stupid people, but also probably a lack of best practices training.
the weakest part of all cybersecurity is the people working at the company.
Can't fix stupid.

For what it's worth, I watched some of the footage circulating all over the place at this point and was impressed by the animations. They're taking the human looking movements to another level once again. The shooting of someone and watching how they react before falling is frightening realistic. To the point where, I think playing the game enough is going to truly desensitize you to how it would be if you saw someone get shot right in front of you in real life. I'm not sure if getting ultra realistic in games that are based in real world/real life is a good thing entirely...
i remember statements like these from the 80's then the 90's(Doom anyone?)and the aughts on up.. Stahp!
Haha, I know about those times. Heck, they thought Mortal Kombat would show someone how they can use their bare hands to rip a person's head clean off theirs shoulders... Yet nobody took any of that seriously because it was all cartoony at the end of the day.
What Rockstar has here is something that borderlines real life and lets you simulate mass murders/shootings, etc. and at this point, at the most realistic manner possible. My point being was that, shooting a demon in the face gives you zero feels of how that would translate to shooting... a real demon in the face, lol. On the other hand, GTA6 gives you a simulation of how a person looks like dying to the point of realism that you wouldn't be fazed if you saw someone in real life get shot in the body or face and saw them fall over. It's quite graphic... I'll still buy the game though![]()

Maybe this will convince this multi-billion dollar company to invest more heavily into IT and cybersecurity, but probably not.
Not that Rockstar has confirmed this but it appears following a lot of Reddit threads that a Rockstar employee (Rockstar India) was social engineered. The hacker got / was given his password by the employee, and that was it. This attack wasn't some Hollywood movie high tech 10 million lines of code hacking situation with secret service helicopters in pursuit which $billion firewalls would have stopped if implemented.
Some users saying you can have billions invested in security and still get social engineered, others saying that isn't an excuse for a company that size etc etc. Lot of back and forth there.
