Out of the Blue

Holy cow! I keep encountering TV commercials for the BlendJet 2 smoothie blender that cause me to leave the room or dive for the mute button. These are basically ASMR videos, touting the various things you can blend together. I'm not an ASMR follower, but have never found such videos bothersome before. When I looked for the commercial online I found they completely lean into this. But sure enough, checking this out on my computer is fine. So the problem is hearing it out of the TV for some reason. But it's not just me. In searching for the video I see that I seem to be in a majority in finding the commercial problematic. There are posts from all over from people who say it makes their skin crawl or they want to throw something at the TV. I can totally relate. I wonder what it is that causes the effect to be so different between the PC and the TV? I imagine it has to do with distance from the source.

Cars that US insurance companies don't think are worth fixing get sold at auction overseas (legally, they cannot be driven on the road here even if you fix them, once the VIN is registered as totaled).

I don't think that's right - unless being totaled has different levels that I'm not aware of. As long as the vehicle can pass inspection, it can be driven. What it will have though is what's called a "salvage title". That will (or should) warn future buyers. Now, once the vehicle goes overseas, I wouldn't doubt that the "totaled" part of the title is conveniently left out.

When my Jeep got rear ended, the mostly cosmetic damages ended up costing more that the vehicle was worth, so it was technically totaled. I got a check for $2800 and after replacing the rear glass, was able to drive it for a few more years and then sold it for $800. It turned out being a pretty sweet deal for me.

Kind of disappointing the original owner didn't want to talk to the reporters. But it was awesome the guy from Turkmenistan actually ended up immigrating to the US. Didn't see that coming...

What an idiots. They didn't realize this guy was either on hallucinogens or some other drug, or was simply having a mental episode?! Sure, eventually he lunged for an officer in which case shooting him would make sense in many other situations. In this case, however, it were the incompetent officers that escalated it to this point.

I highly recommend you read or listen to that Lexus story. It was fascinating. There's a whole gray international market for totaled US cars. Cars that US insurance companies don't think are worth fixing get sold at auction overseas (legally, they cannot be driven on the road here even if you fix them, once the VIN is registered as totaled). They get bought by people in countries with wiz mechanics who can fix anything, and labor rates are cheap. The ultimate 'One man's trash is another man's treasure' story.

Luckily, I've never seen this commercial on TV. Yes, it is horrible - I couldn't get through it on my computer. There has always been something about loud whispering that really gets on my nerves. To me, someone loudly whispering in a theater is way worse than someone talking normally at the same volume.
I also had never seen it prior to following Blue's link. Other than the utter stupidity, it didn't affect me positively or negatively -- so apparently I lack whatever it is which makes people respond to this stuff. *shrug* Which is just fine with me.

Choose your vacation spots wisely.
Some may recall that a local here who did this to his house and attended a family picnic in the rotunda on J6, just received a week in prison, 2 years probation, 500.00 fine, and 60 hours community service.

I'm pretty sure it's me. But then again it could be you. Maybe it's neither.
I bet this word caught a lot of people off guard.

As for wordle, I hadn't given it much thought in a long time.

It's mindless entertainment. If you're the type that gets upset because a movie or show changes or doesn't follow word for word what was in a book then you won't like it.
If you have access to it what harm is there in watching a couple of episodes, you might enjoy them as millions have. If it turns to shit later you can stop watching and it can't change the enjoyment you received earlier.
Plus it might give you and your son something to talk about other than the weather.

Checked the wiki page. I remembered wrong, the developer is Welsh. But I was right that it uses American spelling. As far as I can tell the word we've been talking about "parer" is not a case of a common British word but never used by Americans.

I thought he was an American living in the UK? Although I could be remembering wrong. I do remember the game supposedly intentionally uses US spelling, there was a bit of an uproar in Britain when one of the words selected used the US spelling of the word and a ton of people in the UK had their streaks busted and Twitter blew up over it.

LOTR: ROP is getting pretty good. The fourth episode was the best so far and showed the beginnings of lore for a famous mineral in the LOTR universe and most fantasy settings. The series is still glorified fan fiction, but it looks impressive. It is also decently acted, some better than others.

Nearly 2 in 5 of American college graduates regret their majors

I didn't regret mine, even though there are very few jobs that it relates to and my first job out of college had nothing to do with my major. I did enjoy it though, and I got good grades as a result, so there's that.
