PGA TOUR 2K23 in October

2K announces an October 11th release date for PGA TOUR 2K23, the next installment in the golfing simulation series. This reveals the game's cover athlete to be Tiger Woods, someone who's much better at driving golf balls than SUVs. This game will being paying out a lot of royalties, as Woods is one of several playable pros you can control on one of several licensed golf courses using all manner of licensed gear. And you can look forward to commentary from some licensed broadcasters:
Woods leads a roster of more than 14 male and female pros at launch*, including Justin Thomas, Lexi Thompson, Tony Finau, Lydia Ko, Collin Morikawa, Will Zalatoris, Brooke Henderson and more. Players can step into the tee box as one of the pros in Exhibition, multiplayer and Divot Derby play, or go head-to-head with them in a battle to climb the leaderboard and claim the FedExCup in PGA TOUR MyCAREER mode. In addition to the pros, the broadcast-style presentation and commentary team of Rich Beem and Luke Elvy also return, with the addition of English golf pro and broadcaster Henni Koyack.

PGA TOUR 2K23 will include 20 licensed courses at launch. New additions include the South Course of Wilmington Country Club, The Renaissance Club, St. George’s Golf and Country Club and more. The industry-leading Course Designer also returns, offering players the opportunity to build their dream courses and share them with a global online community**.

*Additional pros and courses will be added as free post-launch DLC and be available to all players.

I didn't know that backstory. I was assuming this was just 2K taking a shot at it. That actually makes me want to try it because I liked Golf Club more then the EA game. I know 2K will add some kind of virtual currency etc, but if I can skip that crap and play some rounds on my Deck that would be pretty cool.

Apparently there is a 3 click option for those that want it. But the price will likely kill it for me.
Will hold off until the EA golf game is released in the spring to compare.

This is the first release of the old Golf Club series since 2k bought out HB Studios. Golf Club was great in that it had good mechanics and modes, and a huge number of courses and course designer. There was a virtual currency but there was almost nothing to buy and no gameplay benefit. It was great because it was a competent single/multiplayer/community game that just gave you everything for the asking price. Here comes the next edition, and it has multiple editions, multiple DLC and multiple season passes at launch.

The other great recent sports series, Super Mega Baseball, got bought up by EA as well since the last title :/
