Reversed course on that one pretty quickly, what a shocker. I would normally be fine with PoE style mtx but Blizzard has shown poor judgement in the past with this stuff so I'm just going to say no thanks.

Why is everyone talking about a severe snowstorm with high winds and low visibility? It's August for crying out loud...

Blizzard is dead to me. I liked Overwatch, but Diablo 3 was meh, Diablo Immoral... er Immortal and then what I've seen of Overwatch 2 (and survey's like this) tell me that they are not the company I use to love and hold dear to my heart.

Let Microsoft have them, and then maybe we'll get the Starcraft Planetside 1 type game that I've been begging for.

Because there isn't a 100% overlap between the markets for both games. There's a lot of players who aren't going to bother with the mobile version. Why not make money by catering to them as well? They make more money by doing both rather than just sticking to mobile.

pay-to-be-less-of-a-pain-in-the-ass systems.

I'm pretty sure there will be some of this. Similar to the Guild Wars 2 and PoE route. Pay for more personal stash space, account-wide stash space, more inventory slots for one character and more character slots. Personal infinite salvage kits to destroy items in your inventory on the go for mats - the list goes on for what they could do in a Diablo game here. People have wanted more stash tabs for Diablo 3 for years, and keep complaining about it to this day. Guild Wars 2 goes to town on this since it launched, which was a full paid title. And it has been successful for them.

I agree with everything you said about PoE. Bloated beyond all recognition sums it up perfectly.

Nah, they're not stupid. D4 won't be going the pay-to-win route. It will be cosmetics, which I'm fine with personally, but I can understand if some people aren't. The social elements just help encourage cosmetic purchases, so players can show off their weird outfits to their friends.

I really hope you're right, that it's just cosmetic bullshit; no pay-to-win or pay-to-be-less-of-a-pain-in-the-ass systems. I am a little annoyed with the open world-ish stuff they seem to be trying to do, but it could be briefly hilarious, and then I just go to solo or controlled coop dungeons like D3. Blizzard certainly has the money and theoretically still has the talent to make a hell of an ARPG, and a lot of studios seem to be failing to pick up the slack, unfortunately. I used to think Path of Exile was going to be it, but that game has become bloated beyond all recognition, and the hassle of item management, etc. and stupidly low drop rates to encourage trading have killed it for me, long term. PoE2 will probably be as bad or worse as PoE1, in those regards.

*EDIT* Grammar.

I don't want strangers to run around in a shared open world, possible even fighting in the same areas I am. This is an element of MMO and should never be part of a single-player game.

If they are simply cosmetic, I have no complaint. If they are available by playing the game, even better.
