Company of Heroes 3 in November [Jul 12, 2022, 5:23 pm ET] – Share – Viewing Comments
The
Steam Listing for Company of Heroes 3 now displays a release date,
showing the World War II RTS sequel is to arrive on November 17th. This
news
post explains the game is now available for pre-purchase, and that buying
the game in advance includes a bonus Devil's Brigade DLC pack with Legendary
skins and other Legendary tier cosmetics. Additionally, a Mission Alpha demo is
available on the Company of
Heroes Website, and this is playable for the next week. New players are
invited to sign-up, and word is previous testers are already set: "If you
already signed up for CoH-Development and you played our first Pre-Alpha Preview
in July or our Multiplayer Alpha in December, you’re ready to jump into the
Mission Alpha!" Here's a new
North Africa Trailer with a bit of cinematic storytelling. Here's word on
the game:

They have officially killed this game off, no Coop at all. Cant play any type of Skirmish missions against the AI. This game can suck it!!

The first CoH was fantastic. The second....not so much.

If they go down the route they did before with DLC and such, it's a no go for me.

Really?! That's sad. AI skirmish were great fun in the original.

Yes, you can, you don't know what you're talking about. It was even playable during the last multiplayer pre-alpha they released. There's even YouTube videos out there of people playing it.

Not a "no go" for me but definitely a long wait & see for a complete edition (on sale). It might turn into a no go yet if a Relic account is also required for the full game and not just that playtest.

I remember that the first or second one (it's been like a decade) was me opening it up, and nearly every button I clicked said I had to buy something to play that part. I was like... WTF?
The DLC on CoH2 was all I could remember too. 1 was excellent though, especially modded.
No way in hell im preordering. Possibly in a few years in a steam sale or humble bundle when the dlc is included.

I wasn't even aware that RELIC still existed after Dawn of War 3..... also maybe it's the world situation, but WW2 games interest me zero nowadays. And all I can remember from COH2 was exactly what someone else already mentioned, you bought the game and you wanted to play and suddenly you got a screen where 90% was "BUY IT here" with the """campaigns""" only being tutorials.

It doesn't matter, I should have posted more then I did. And No! its not jumping the gun. They should have listed it on their Steam page which they didn't!!!
Secondly, the whole formula for COH sucks in general. the constant Tug of war blows to no end. and the resource management is atrocious. Want to build lots of units, yeah good luck with that. Not enough Gas, or whatever other resource you might need. Tried playing COH 2 recently, and it made me barf. They needed to reinvent the game and all they did was put a new coat of paint on it.
Say what you want. RTS games are my thing, but COH still sucks!

It does matter, you were wrong. Going solely by a steam store page line item and not even attempting to find anything is jumping the gun just like they said. Regardless, the game does have co-op and for people concerned about the new map format, the just announced Afrikakorp campaign is going to be designed like CoH1.

CoH doesn't suck, it's just different from other RTS games. It's more of a small scale RTS with a focus on squad operations. I was personally disappointed with the quality of CoH2 but this looks a return to the formula that made CoH so great. Really looking forward to it.

Well, that's not my opinion. I've played the crap out of COH back in the day. and honestly, We hated the constant Tug of War because you lacked units and unit cap to put the units on the map to defend those positions. And the lack of Unit cap and Resourses was a constant pain in the ass.
I really wish they had added a game mode where you could just build units and fight without all the Resourse nodes. Just add Objectives on the map and areas to take over and hold. That would have been so much better.
Compared to other RTS games, like Sin of a Solar Empire. or Act of Aggression, COH sucks!

I too really was surprised by this, and doubly so that it's still developed by Relic and published by Sega. It kinda feels like maybe they were stuck in stasis for a decade and then just now broke free.
I will say that Relic has definitely done RTS differently, to the point that the term RTS, while accurate, doesn't really convey how different these squad based RTS games can be from what you traditionally think of when you hear "RTS". I happen to groove to it, so I'm at least interested.

Really looking forward to seeing the feedback at launch (no preoder). They're bringing back things like true front and rear tank armor/weakness, including side hits. Sorely missing from COH2. Updated engine for better multi-threading will hopefully bring some even more enhanced destruction and cover opportunities. May or may not check out this campaign demo, but will be looking forward to seeing what's what in November.

The resources are there to keep the action moving so people don't just turtle in a single spot and resource control in general is a staple of nearly every RTS game. The game had a population cap as well, not that it was ever really an issue. I can't really say I played a lot of "tug of war", generally speaking my matches were over in 15-20 minutes. I logged 600+ hours with friends and online in the competitive community.
Anyways I'm really looking forward to it, Relic is a vastly different crew these days but the devs of this seem to be huge fans of the original.
I loved the original CoH. I still play CoH2 once in a while. I like that they continue to support their games many years after their release dates.
