Activision Blizzard Walkout Plans

There's an interview with Mike Ybarra on the Los Angeles Times (may require registration or subscription) where the Blizzard honcho expresses optimism about changing the workplace culture that's spawned lawsuits over sexual harassment and other issues. In contrast, ABetterABK tweets about plans for Activision Blizzard employees to stage a walkout on July 21st. Showing Twitter is the perfect platform for communication, the notice is spread over a handy 17 16 tweets. One of them includes a graphic outlining several complaints about gender inequity and another points to the ABK Strike Fund Go Fund Me. Here's a bit:
In light of the recent attacks on the civil liberties of our employees, the employee-led Committee Against Sex and Gender Discrimination has scheduled a walk out action on July 21st, 2022

We are calling for protection of several communities of marginalized workers. Employees are actively facing state legislation that is putting women, LGBTQ+ employees, and their families at risk, with other vulnerable groups on the horizon.

Our walk-out demands focus on the protections of ABK employees from external threats like the recent overturn of Roe V. Wade, and internal threats such as retaliation and harassment while in the workplace.

For background on why this walkout is being held, the company's current healthcare policies do not adequately protect the workers of ABK.

Lol wooooo fight it out. The vast majority of gamers would appreciate the "change" of both Blizzard to stop being a crap company or go away, and same for this bunk excuse of a "union". As already stated, these people should get into some reality checks by starting their own game studio, but think they are owed / entitled to many many things in life.
Meanwhile those making excuse for these jokers are doing so just because they vaguely support the idea of unions, blindly ignoring how poorly ABK aligns with a traditional union that supports the core of the work force, not just a fringe group of activists.

Like I've said before, the moment you cave to the extremists is the moment it's all over but the crying. It's a workplace, not a fucking political forum. They should fire them all and relocate to eastern Europe or India. See how you like looking for work in a vastly overpopulated world with a global recession on the way. They have no idea how good they have it.
Ahh, Cutter. You didn't proofread your post enough, did you?

Cutter crying about employed people expecting more from their employers. Check.

Cutter, in his wisdom, thinks the company should fire anyone that wants better working conditions, and then wants that company to relocate to eastern Europe or India... because... he thinks that those areas are overpopulated and that would make it more difficult for the people they fired to get jobs with the company that then moved out of the country.

Well, at least he is consistent: consistent at making crap non-sensical arguments.

Cutter, I think you forget that without the skill of the skilled labor, you and your manager club aren't building or selling anything. Maybe... just maybe... it is unskilled managers that are the ones that do not realize how good they have it.

Managers are a dime a dozen. Managers that can't do the job of the employees they manage can be replaced with a McDonald's manager. Fire the managers. Promote the skilled laborers to management. Treat your employees with respect.

Yes. Quietly sitting there hoping for change has done so much in this world...

"Man who is fine with status quo lectures others on precisely the inoffensive, polite right way to achieve change" is an increasingly popular take of late. On one side, wealthy corporations and crass businessmen who give no fucks about anything but the bottom line. On the other side, employees, some of whom are unhappy with the current situation. But somehow we have a ton of people who see these two sides and think "Boy I sure hope those unhappy employees aren't asking for a little too much from the poor underprivileged WEALTHY CORPORATION!"

Yeah. The usual far-right suspects, which includes Cutter on any topic he isn't directly impacted by, are sure showing up in droves to be angry at people who want to work in a fair environment, or just anything that doesn't most impact straight white males positively.
Several have most likely never worked at a place with more than 15 employees.

A classic stance, that they want something (video games) and don't care how much suffering is attached to the process.

They don't even want Activition Blizzard games - all of them have posts talking about how awful AB is.
All they want is to make sure nothing ever changes unless the change could benefit them. If it's a change that could benefit someone else but not benefit them, it's either bad, or people are stupid for wanting it.

Do you identify with the wealthy and privileged and the needy claims annoy you ?
Don't fret so much, it will get sorted one way or another.

But remember that conservatives have raised their salaries 9 times in the last 18 years for a total of $99,000 while voting 14 times against raising the minimum wage.
Also attempted 71 times to take away people’s healthcare.

And the USA is the only 1rst world country that doesn't have a form of universal healthcare and extorts the infirm with robber prices for medical attention and medicaments.
And now, women are second class underprivileged citizens in most states.

I shoud say with some reason that USA isn't a real 1rst world country, no matter how much money their rich have.
Give them even better ridiculous tax exemptions and make them untouchable by the justice system in any other financially stable country and they would flock away in a blink.
Wait, are you saying the majority of women did not ask to be paid less than their male counterparts. Next you'll tell me that they didn't ask for decreased bodily autonomy or the right to vote. That's crazy talk. This country went to shit when we quit burning them at the stake.

Right, right, guess we just crazy pearl clutchers over here making a distinction from companies offering perks on their own, vs a political activist group masquerading as a union making ridiculous demands from companies they don't even really want to work for.
How dare I critique the obviously poorly thought out demands that first declare everyone can be remote, then obsesses on members being fully paid / compensated to move based on perceived "discriminatory legislation" which could be about anything to these people. Have fun with China on that

I havent listened to Peterson but the idea that the left doesn't clutch many, many pearls is laughable on its face.

Plenty of pearl clutching to go around on both sides of the political divide. Only ideologues believe otherwise.

Lol yea "real hard to disagree", way to show they have no idea how real world immigration works from the get-go. And then a great way to setup a situation where no one gets hired later except from territories that checklist every one on their demand boxes. Pretty easy to demand saving every gay person in Iran that asks when don't have to pay for it yourself.
