Diablo IV Next Year; Necromancer Revealed

A press release from Blizzard announces a 2023 release date for Diablo IV. This confirms what's been presumed to be the launch window for the action/RPG sequel. This also confirms the game is coming to current-generation consoles, and will support cross-progression on all platforms. This came along with the Necromancer Cinematic Trailer introducing the game's never say die final class. Here's word:
Blizzard Entertainment announced today that Diablo® IV, the next generation installment in the genre-defining series, is debuting in 2023. Blizzard also announced that Diablo IV is coming to Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation®5, alongside versions for Windows® PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation®4, with cross-play and cross-progression enabled for all platforms.

Inside Sanctuary—a realm long embattled by the devastating wars between the High Heavens and the Burning Hells—decades have passed since the events of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls®, but the world remains plagued by a sinister, corrupting force. And now Lilith, the Daughter of Hatred, has been reborn in the mortal world and is determined to rule over Sanctuary once more.

Joining the battle alongside iconic classes Barbarian, Sorceress, Rogue, and Druid is the legendary Necromancer, the fifth playable character class, which returns with newly designed undead mechanics. Players will be able to utilize the Necromancer’s Book of the Dead, an all-new ability for the class, allowing them to dominate the battlefield with deeper customization of their undead army than ever before. Fight with aggressive skeleton Warriors, fast-attacking Skirmishers, sword and board Defenders, or scythe-wielding Reapers. Unleash a litany of spells with Skeleton Mages, imbuing them with shadow, cold, and sacrificial magics. Deploy tanking Bone Golems, health-stealing Blood Golems, and charging Iron Golems. Or sacrifice them all to absorb their power.

Hoping they don't f**k this up too bad and at least give us who just want a solid single player experience a good run with the game. I'm not one of those that needs to hunt for every epic item/trade anything or care about going in it with another player. Let me get from beginning to end and enjoy that experience solo and I'll say, I've had my Diablo fix.

If that is true you would probably rather enjoy D:I. Not think it was great or anything, but that is basically exactly what Immortal is.

The weird immortal vs shadow thing is... wonky, the PvP is P2W (though pug ARPG PvP has never ever been good), and I don't even understand what the deal is with all those rune/gem hybrid systems. However, if you just want to play though the game and do some stuff at end game solo / in small groups it is a perfectly adequate Diablo fix. I finished the story and max level part of the game, played some of the paragon / end game into hell 2. At that point it seemed to require far more time than I was interested in investing to advance to hell 3 so I have more or less stopped playing. Honestly I was shockingly impressed with the game overall, but to be fair that is also because I went in with pretty low expectations. Either way, you could do a lot worse with an ARPG and it doesn't cost you anything to play the entire game.

Diablo Immortal AKA 10 years without innovation.
Hell, so where is the movie "The Downfall of Blizzard" ?

DI is Diablo 3 lite, ON MOBILE. I call that innovation. Best game after DI on Mobile is Angry Birds, ffs.

more like years than months... I would have preferred to see gameplay footage. I'm not expecting too much, but if we are lucky I am wrong.

They had a combined cinema/gameplay reel as part of the Summer Games Fest. I think it's looking pretty promising, very old school Diablo feel and the gameplay looks really taut. Blizzard polish to the feedback and animations.

I do like the Open World idea, however and it will be picked up on, the clearing out an area, they are going to get UBI attacked for that. World Boss idea is solid though as with many new additions to the series. But man does that game look painfully dark, it is early though.

I'm still keeping my hopes together for this. I know Blizzard's gone down the toilet in recent months but I've always had a lot enjoyment out of their Diablo games (minus Diablo 3 launch). This game still checks all the marks in what I want from an ARPG and the look they brought on it shows they're trying to go back to the "mature" roots of Diablo.

Considering Diablo Immortal is right now probably the most evil of any Diablo game made, I'm not sure it can get any worse than that. Hoping they don't f**k this up too bad and at least give us who just want a solid single player experience a good run with the game. I'm not one of those that needs to hunt for every epic item/trade anything or care about going in it with another player. Still bummed they went Druid instead of Paladin. Paladin makes so much more sense thematically in the setting. Hopefully in an expansion

That aside Diablo IV is looking really good and I like the mini dungeons/open world approach they're trying. Necro at launch will be awesome too.

Surprised I don't actually like the artistic appearance of this character in the trailer. Blizzard art work is generally incredible. Not that it matters, because I won't be paying for this game or any other future Blizzard game. Good job Activision. You're making money.
