I'm not sure what they can do with this without making it more-of-the-same. Unlike between 1-3, neither technology or gameplay has advanced much since Witcher 3 came out, unless they decide to make it a rogue-like (please don't). I guess if they're using UE5 it will look nicer.

I think they're going to do a more open world sandbox game where you don't play a preset character, like Cyberpunk. Like a create your own Witcher type of thing.

Fuck I hope not. Having a set character, his own backstory and relationships, likes, dislikes and motivations + the story was what made the whole thing actually fun. Otherwise it would just be a noname game with a noname character doing noname things for noname reasons.

Also, Elden Ring couldn't tell a story to save its life. It's a fun game, but story wise it can't tell a story at all compared to W3.

When I play a single player RPG that is known for its storytelling, I want a GOOD STORY and it's much easier to tell a good story with a character that has a background taken into account when writing the story and that fits the world it's in to a T.

Just bring Geralt back, we'll all cheer.

If they make Ciri the main I'm gonna be disappointed tho.

And... seeing current trends of having female leads just cause they're female, I wouldn't be surprised if they made that stupid mistake.

Game is called The Witcher, not The Princess.

Only instance when I would TOLERATE having Ciri as a lead would be if it tells her story of going through the Witcher training and transformation as a kind of introduction to the game and if the game brings back known side characters and manages to actually pull a decent story out of that mess.

Otherwise, NOPE, Geralt or GTFO.

I wouldn't call it a masterpiece as the gameplay was way too repetitive and not that interesting. The formula for almost every quest was: Use witcher sense to follow footsteps to something you kill. Also, the level-up system was lame. Adding 2% sword damage or whatever wasn't compelling at all.

Witcher 3 was a masterpiece, which is a lot of the reason Punk '77 was so poorly received--it was the furthest thing from a masterpiece. It was way off the mark for CDPR. People expected more of the same attention to detail and quality of W3. They did not get it with Punk. What helped W3, too, indeed all of the Witcher titles, was the fact that CDPR had the good sense to go PC first, followed by console versions later. I hope they've learned a valuable lesson from the Punk '77 debacle. They made a lot of money on Punk, especially in pre-orders, but those pre-orders were based on expectations built on a halo effect from Witcher 3. I know it's been bug-fixed about as much as possible now, but I still have no desire to play Punk. I hope CDPR doesn't lose its way. They are great developers, but they need to return to their Witcher-series roots of good sense and hard work. And PC first.

Also, it was originally announced that the remaster of W3 was going to be released at the end of '21. I hope that doesn't happen again! This announcement is eerily like the first announcement on the upgrade.
It is well known that I cannot err--and so, if you should happen across an error in anything I have written you can be absolutely sure that *I* did not write it!...;)

I hope Elden Ring influences companies to get their combat fixed in open world games - that's the reason that game is so bad ass; they spent years upon years crafting those systems before opening it up to a large landmass. But, I hope Elden Ring doesn't influence them to think that super difficult = awesome game. I appreciate realistic combat, one shot to the head and dead, not spongy + take 30 deaths to kill, FromSoft is an exception.

Well, I think Elden Ring is going to influence a lot of games going forward.. It will be interesting to see if that includes witcher 4.
Witcher 3, all the icon locations, just a massive waste of time, especially the ocean ones, unless you needed money.
The "and then" story flow was one of the best aspects to the game.

I have zero problem with more Witcher 3 style content, particularly on the UE5 engine. As far as I'm concerned they don't even need a grand design, I'd be super happy with more episodic stuff in the vein of Blood & Wine. Smaller stories and see more varied regions and stuff.

Wait, wasn't the witcher pendant in the snow their announcement that they were working on W4?
