Ahh yes, the ol' videogames are not art bit. Only you define what art is, I forgot. Adam Sandler Netflix movies? Art. Videogames? Entertainment, no politics allowed!

All that studying of history and no indication of politics infiltrating everything. Who woulda thunk?

I guess that must be why you never see movies about religion or politics...

Of course I do, but I'm definitely not most people. I've also spent decades studying history and art history, which again isn't most people, particularly the latter. Yet, I'm still the same that I prefer the majority of my entertainment to be precisely that and not bludgeoning me over the head with the creator's political and/or religious world view. I think it's pretty obvious by now that I hate most extremists regardless if they're on the left or right side of the aisle. We live on a Goldilocks planet and that's the how life, politics, and everything else works best, not too hot, not too cold, but just right. The last thing I want is a video game telling me what my views on abortion, or anything else for that matter, should be.

They are going to have to move out of the USA before the Christian version of the Taliban installs all of their bullshit religious laws nationwide in a few years.

This country is going the way of Iran, religious zealots have taken over, and gerrymandering has rendered voting nearly useless.

Just because something is a video game doesn't make it art. Can a video game be art? Sure. Are these mega corporations making art? No. They are making lowest common denominator to make the most money. It is the opposite of art.

Washington Post is so full of it.

They act like it's just a given that some great injustice is being done and the video game industry is complicit in it. Like it's just obvious on its face.

Some great injustice is being done, and they're not acting as if the video game industry is complicit, just pointing out that, as an industry, it's quite quiet. Few other industries are.

And there's a reason for that - their employees demand it. I know this is controversial to some people that struggle with the fact that their silent majority is a loud minority, but the overwhelming bulk of talented, well educated, high earning people under 45 (y'know, the bulk of who major corporations want to hire) are liberal, and want to work for a place that shares their values. Want to buy products from one that does, as well.

Shame on the video game industry for not inserting itself into this very personal topic that has nothing to do with video games.

We can't on one hand argue that videogames are art then turn around and not do what art has always done and is most efficient at, social criticism.

They go hand in hand, you either have both, or none. Choose.

Personally I don't expect anything else than lip service from the corporate videogame sector, same as any other big business.

They'll say they're for "x" thing while their actions worsen said problem at the root. And those actions being motivated by profit, they won't change them, hence the lip service.

Any industry that generates over $150b and hires thousands should be concerned about the health and well being of their employees. Stating as much didn’t hurt Bungie https://www.bluesnews.com/s/247685/op-ed likewise Double Fine Productions https://www.bluesnews.com/s/247819/biz-buzz

With some in the video game industry it’s probably best they remain silent.
Lip service paid by the likes of Ubisoft, Riot Games or ActiBlizz would result in guffaws of laughter from those in the know.
