Blizzard on Diversity Improvements

Blizzard News introduces Makaiya Brown, the company's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I), and Development Lead since September 2021. Blizzard has famously fallen short in these areas, so she has her work cut out for her. Here's a bit on how things are progressing:
Progress is also taking place at multiple levels organically—you have seen many Blizzard development teams making great strides in representation, accessibility, and player behavior recently. And this year to date, 31.5% of our new hires self-identify as women–that’s just the beginning. We are grateful for the efforts of individuals and teams who have immediately embraced our goal of increasing diversity within Blizzard, and we are committed to a continuous focus on improvement in this area.

As a leader in DE&I, seeing this kind of action from individuals en masse in their areas of influence is incredibly moving. It is the kind of work that adds up to real change. Our work at Blizzard is not a matter of putting in a bunch of corporate training programs and calling it a day–this is a large-scale effort at the business, team, and individual levels, that will continue to be iterated upon and evolved to level up the core of who Blizzard is.

Unenviable job. Here's hoping she can bucket faster than the water leaks in.
Do you have a single fact to back that up?

If this company wasn't as big as Blizzard, it would have already sunk. Amazing how they're trying to keep it afloat.

At this point, they're better off rebranding Blizzard to something else... Flurries Entertainment?

And depending on who you ask, "Hell Storm."

Hiring someone to make sure a company holds no racist beliefs, sure, I am completely with you. "Diversity" anything, however, is complete fucking bullshit. Hire who is the best in something. If the screening is done by a person who is not a racist, nobody should give a shit what the black/white/gender ratio is.

Good lord. Rolleyes Never mind ensuring you have a decent place to work and people make at least a living wage and benefits - corps like Blizzard should be engaging in profit sharing. Instead they want to waste more time and money on leftist racist AA that only drags companies down. They may as well just kill the company off now.

Hiring for diversity definitely effects the outcome of what the final product is if that product is creative in nature, as movies and videogames reflect upon the culture and politics of its creators, generally subliminally, sometimes explicit. However, I have never personally seen someone get hired only because they are black/white or for gender, they still have to go through a series of checks on knowledge, background, resume etc. Unfortunately, there will always be bias in hiring, anyone who has done a recent job search knows this. Plus, a more diverse company casts a wider net financially (gotta hit those market demographics), which is what a lot of companies are aiming for.

Different version of her statement from https://game-news24.com/2022/03/08/makaiya-brown-de-i-and-fdi-and-development-lead/
... most likely before the Blizzard PR department did their "you can't write this" and "change that" thing.
But no big changes & buffs of any importance.
Just get your facts straight next time.

blizzard.com:
Makaiya Brown ... Blizzard’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I), and Development Lead since September 2021.
game-news24.com:
Makaiya Brown ... I have been helping a Blizzards with diversity, equity, and inclusion since October 2021.
Calm down, the statement mentions her full job description right away. But what is a FDI?

Makaiya Brown, DE&I and FDI and Development Lead

Hello, community of Blizzard! My name is Makaiya Brown. I have been helping a Blizzards with diversity, equity, and inclusion since October 2021. When International Women’s Day is coming up, I thought what better time would I share some thoughts on this role and how our work at Blizzard is progressing so far.

First, the obvious question: why Blizzard is? When I met people here, things struck me. First, the ability and commitment to produce meaningful change from employees to employees are all exceptionally talented people who want to do something better than their own. And second, the real commitment from the nixty-sixth-generation team, who are spearheading change around the board to ensure their teams feel safe, heard, and can be their best, creative selves. It’s rare to see a continuous, overwhelming effort at all levels and that energy that inspires me as my work progresses.

Because we want to make games welcoming to everyone, we need many perspectives. When women, people of color, LGBT+ or people who are differently-abled feeling Blizzard is a place for thema place where they are their best selves acquire valuable perspectives. A culture with more inclusive culture is excellent, period.

The most important pillar of lasting change is education; and I realize that for some people, education around DE&I subjects is uncomfortable. Everybody has biases based on multiple influences like the fact that we grew up, who we grew up around, what kind of media we used to consume. In the workplace, these biases manifest to particular extents. In the past, while you can experiment with the same people. As opposed to the same thing and try to do something different, the behaviors can also be unintentionally offensive, or cause some people to think about sharing ideas. Recognizing these biases is reasonable and important to personal, professional, and organizational development.

Everything starts with listening. For the future of Blizzard, it’s important to understand the past. Once we have a clear picture of where we are, we can make significant changes on our way towards the future. We’ve already started to build a strong learning platform, a system for actionable leadership accountability, reworking our recruiting practices and more.

A lot of development teams recently made significant progress in representation, accessibility and player behavior. And this year, three-quarters of our new hires do not fully self-declared as women. We are grateful for the efforts of individuals and teams who have immediately embraced our goal of improving diversity in Blizzard, and we’re committed to continuing to focus on this area.

As a leader in the agency and management, seeing such a sort of action from individuals en masse in their domains of influence is very exciting. That’s the kind of work that adds to real change. While the work at Blizzard isn’t a business matter, and it’s not just a small effort that goes on so far a business and team and individuals. That’s a large effort that goes on to be accomplished and evolve to be fully incorporated.

People from all backgrounds would like to create and play games to escape The extrastudos exist enough discrimination in the outside, and in all corners, everyone should feel welcomed here and in our universe. We’ve got much to do. I hope building a more inclusive workplace, as well as more inclusive games, will have a greater impact on understanding, care and appreciation of people who we think are different from us. And even if we continue to create better spaces for the gaming world, then the real world becomes better.

We are regularly coming to your attention about our progress.

Thank you for reading.

FDI could be a typo. It returns nothing at:

"self-identify as women" = liberal hipster PR whitewash term for transexuals.

Equal rights is wonderful, but quota driven diversity BS accomplishes nothing but to increase the numbers of morons who flock to Faux News politics.

It's like saying a zoo is not a zoo unless it has an equal number of every species on the planet.

Meanwhile all Blizzard products continue to devolve towards being mobile games.
