Eh, I'd rather bring my own gun. I'd much prefer my Ruger SR-762 than an AK-47, AK-74, or AK-103. I'd imagine what Ukraine is handing out is AK-47 pattern guns. So you'd be firing the 7.62x39mm round. Compared to a .308Win or NATO 7.62x51mm round, it's not great. It has far less kinetic energy and velocity than the .308Win and is less accurate to boot. On top of that, you have to deal with the AK's "windage" problem where as my SR-762 doesn't have that. Additionally, you have penetration to consider as well. Of all the pictures I have seen so far, none of the regular Russian troops seem to be wearing receivers with any kind of plate in them. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that some troops don't have receivers. I can't imagine, given their state of gear, that they are using ceramic plates so that leaves regular armor grade steel plate. The 7.62x39mm round is just going to ping off of it whereas the .308 is going to leave a fair dent and transfer a lot of its kinetic energy in to the target. It might not be a kill, but it will certainly pause them long enough for you to send off a second round to a non-armored part of the body.

NATO has decided to seriously upgrade the arms they're sending to Ukraine. Instead of just small arms and man portable rockets, they'll be sending them fighter jets.

EU countries will send "fighter jets" to Ukraine at Kyiv's request to help it counter the Russian air and land assault, the bloc's foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said Sunday.

"We're going to provide even fighting jets. We're not talking about just ammunition. We are providing more important arms to go to a war," he told a press conference.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has told the EU "they need the kind of fighting jets that the Ukrainian army is able to operate... some member states have these kinds of planes," Borrell said.

These would likely be types that the Ukrainian AF already flies: MiG 29s and Su-25s which are still operated by Poland, Bulgaria, and Slovakia. I wonder if tanks will soon be on the table.
