Out of the Blue

It's Presidents' Day here in the US, except that it technically isn't. It's widely regarded as such, but the federal holiday is still officially called George Washington's Birthday. The father of our country (who can forget when the results of the paternity test were unveiled on Jerry Springer?) was born about 20 years before England (and the colonies) adopted the Gregorian calendar, which included a one-time adjustment that added 11 days. So his actual birthday is either February 11, 1731 by the Julian calendar or February 22, 1732 by the Gregorian. But today's official holiday is always the third Monday in February, so it's annually somewhere between February 15-21. So to summarize: Washington has two possible birthdays, and even though the federal holiday rotates through an entire week, it cannot actually fall on either of them. To help distract from the confusion, we often call the occasion Presidents' Day, and celebrate with low, low prices.

Complications aside, I have made the executive decision to take advantage of the holiday here (I am, after all, El Presidente). We have the opportunity to visit Jedi, the twinsies, and their mom later today. Their poppa is already at their new home in Oklahoma, their house is on the market, and they already have offers, so this may be one of our last chances to visit before they move away entirely. I'm trying not to cry.

But that doesn't mean it will completely quiet, as the Steam Next Fest February 2022 Edition gets underway today at 1:00 pm EST, offering hundreds of time-limited demos and presentations for games available on Steam. There will be posts about that, though obviously the onus is going to be on users to sort through that much content.

Obituary: Bernie Madoff's sister and her husband dead in apparent murder-suicide.

Reminds me of that old joke:

Why doesn't Texas just slide off in to the Gulf? Because Oklahoma sucks.

But it is true, Oklahoma does suck.
The proper telling is "why is Oklahoma so windy? Because Kansas blows and Texas sucks."
