Holy. Fuck.

I don't feel badly at laughing.

Bahaha ya'll still looking to Beamer for zingers. This is great, just a big ol circle jerk of comically bad attempts to insult, documented for all to see later while Team Tech Lefty fully believes "oh yea we burned that guy"

Haha. I know sports far better than music, for sure.

I was/am mostly a "popular music" guy -- ie.. I generally found music listening to pop stations from the mid 70s through 2000. But I didn't bother to really educate myself over the years. Even bands which I really liked for the longest time I wouldn't have been able to name any of the band members. For instance, I'd say my two favorite bands are Led Zeppelin and the Eagles (yeah, I know..). But it wasn't until the 90s after the Eagles had been broken up for a decade that I learned the names of any of the band members.

As I believe I've already said here, I think rap is like any other type of music, some of it is good, some of it is bad, some of it is okay. However, I believe one of the strengths of rap is a better ability and/or willingness to tell a story more than other types of music seem to be able or willing to do. Both those albums tell a story.

Okay, that pretty much fits how I personally feel about it, I was just looking to hear what someone else might think. I agree, context matters.

I do like the song, it was included in some of the first rap I ever heard (outside Rapper's Delight and Blondie's Rapture) in the early 90s. The song I am specifically referring to is the ninth song on Ice-T's Original Gangster album. It is a toss up between that album and Sister Souljah's 360 Degrees of Power for my favorite rap album.
I guess you mean Straight Up N(spelt w/an A)
I'd never heard the song before. Just listened to it. It's catchy.
I'll make a concerted effort to listen to Sister Souljah album also.

FYI
My knowledge of music is less than my mastery of sports.

Speaking of sports I've been invited to a super bowl party (less than 4 people all vaxx'ed and tested at the door) with one of the towns few medical doctors. From the grapevine I heard he's a fan of ivermectin. I think I can mind my p's and q's for 3 hours while I ingest guacamole, nacho cheese, three layer bean dip and steaks. 😋

Is the song racist. No
Are you racist if you sing the song. Depends. Are you singing it because you like the song, no - you're not racist..
Are you singing it only to get a rise out of people, that would mean you're an asshole and still not racist.
Are you singing the song in the theater where Joe Rogan was watching planet of the apes. Still not racist but probably extremely ignorant.
Are you in that same theater exclaiming you can't believe that you're surrounded by apes while you watch planet of the apes. dingdingdingdingding You're an ignorant racist asshole.

You answered your own question.
If you have to spin your head around 360 degrees to see who might be listening before you sing, tell a joke etc...
Valid point. Although my hesitancy would be based on other people's possible reactions to someone they don't know. It speaks to what I am talking about. Are you saying the song itself is racist? Or is it only racist for me to sing it because of who I am?

Sorry to interrupt the beatdown of our ignorant friend but I do have a question related to the Joe Rogan story which I have been waiting for the opportunity to ask...

As a white man in his late 50s, who is somewhat affluent (retired at 54, live alone in a single family home, have no debt other than my mortgage), if I am listening to a rap song which uses the n-word... is it racist for me to rap along with the song? Perhaps it is only racist if I do it in the presence of others? This is a somewhat rhetorical question -- I really don't care if people think it is, I am certainly not going to stop rapping with it when I am alone no matter what people think. However I would, at best, be hesitant to do so in the presence of anyone other than people I knew very well.
