Dying Light 2 Stay Human Released

Dying Light 2 Stay Human is now available for Windows on Steam, offering the chance to continue to fight for survival in Techland's zombie-infested RPG. Steam News has details on the promised Day One patch, which is now also available. And NVIDIA outlines the game's DLSS and ray tracing support. Dying Light 2 has already received some praise, so the launch is accompanied by an Accolades Trailer with some humblebragging. Here's more on how to fight the dying of the light:
Over twenty years ago in Harran, we fought the virus—and lost. Now, we’re losing again. The City, one of the last large human settlements, is torn by conflict. Civilization has fallen back into the Dark Ages. And yet, we still have hope.

You are a wanderer with the power to change the fate of The City. But your exceptional abilities come at a price. Haunted by memories you cannot decipher, you set out to learn the truth… and find yourself in a combat zone. Hone your skills, as to defeat your enemies and make allies, you’ll need both fists and wits. Unravel the dark secrets behind the wielders of power, choose sides and decide your destiny. But wherever your actions take you, there's one thing you can never forget—stay human.

I played for a few hours last night, just enough to finish the prologue and unlock open world/co-op. Here are a few of my thoughts (playing with a 3080 @ 4k - for comparison, loved the first game)...

Graphically, on high settings the game looks great, but with RT it's on a whole other level - it's amazing. Unfortunately, enabling the RT settings cause way too much of a performance drop, even with DLSS, so I ended up disabling them for now. I plan to take more time to play with the settings to see if I can get a good balance and keep the FPS at 60+ with at least some of the RT enabled (global illumination *drools*). All settings maxed without RT was around 90 FPS with dips to about 80, and with RT around 45ish average, with drops to 30-35 and spikes to around 60 indoors/close quarters.

Movement/parkour feels better/smoother than the first game, even without any upgraded skills, although sometimes the running speed feels it should be a bit faster (hopefully that gets upgraded at some point). Combat so far feels about the same, but again, I have nothing unlocked yet.

Story-wise, several reviews I've skimmed have said that this was the game's weak-point, which may or may not be true by the end, but at least from what I've seen so far, I'm enjoying it.

Only ran into one bug where the game froze when trying to open my stash the one time. No hitching or slow-downs, etc. However, I was not able to map actions to my mouse side-buttons (mouse 4 & 5). Not sure if that's a bug or oversite, but hopefully it gets fixed. Also, how the bloody fuck does this game, in 2022, not support HDR?!? HDR is one of the biggest/best graphical enhancements there is, and there's really no excuse for excluding it any more, especially in a AAA game. Even the AutoHDR setting in Windows 11 doesn't do anything, which seems to completely defeat the purpose, but I digress.

Looking forward to playing more tonight. ADD HDR, TECHLAND!!!

I'm just being snarky of course, but haven't you ever played a survival game, you can mine anything!
They can mine for seeds, tools and fertilizer but not sulfur of salt peter?

Sometimes, complainers are just people who complain about anything.
It's usually about their egos, like omg we have to only have melee!
Cause then people with guns can kill without melee!
Wth, does anyone care about Coop games, it's like team work for dudes and babes! Cheerleading

/snark is never over!

Honestly the point is every game has guns and if zombies can magically reappear every 5 seconds, so can ammo! Lighter

No guns. At least not yet, maybe in the future. The game takes place 20 years after the first one with mankind being pretty much gone. There is no way to produce ammunition anymore, so you have to use what you find to build your own melee weapons. Not sure about bows.

I barely used guns in the first one because everyone knows that loud noises attract more zombies, and the louder the noise, the more zombies come running. But if you just want to go in guns 'a blazin', then you're probably out of luck for now

People complained that guns broke the first game, after you find one you can just buy ammo, no need for melee after that.

As for scavenging, the pandemic has shown how fake all that stuff is. When covid hit many stores were cleaned out of most everything, at least until the paranoia subsided. It will be interesting to see how video games change because of it. "I have the vaccine!!" "Was it FDA approved? No thanks!"

Even if there were zombies Zombie (they are my top one or two bad guys) they don't magically respawn every 5 seconds.
Or however long it takes to walk a block and turn around, fighting the exact same zombies again.
Coal, sulfur and salt peter. How do you think there is still canned foods, after more than 20 years or any other nonsense we pickup.
Those canned foods don't make sense for sure. But growing plants on rooftops works, growing sulfur an saltpeter on the other hand...
But bows. Bows would have been great for the shooter fans. Making bows and arrows can be done even when you can't walk the streets anymore without becoming the dinner of a few dozen undead.
EDIT: Oh, there actually IS a blueprint for bows! Alright then. Don't follow this link, this is some sort of spoiler.

There was a mass shooting referred to as the March Massacre that happened a few years after the wall went up and all the guns were confiscated, beyond that not sure what happened.

Running well over 40-50fps on a 1080ti. Performance has been solid but a few issues.
A lot of cut and paste when it comes to safe houses/mini-settlements (not sure what exactly to call them).
Also a lot of chests on these roofs are stuck in walls. So you pick open a chest and can't get most of the stuff out because there is a wall right in the middle of the chest.
Some night time baddies like howlers just stand around and don't attack and can't be attacked.
And regular run of the mill zombies will die, fall to the ground, then stand up and not move.

You can NOT repair weapons. Which utterly sucks.
There is a co-op call for help system that you can help out or call for help. 9 out of 10 times you can not connect to anyone else.

Seems to be a 33.9MB patch on Steam now so will see what it does.

Yep today we get the patch, but 40-50 FPS no longer is acceptable to me, we all have our wants and needs. But you probably could if you wanted to, drop some settings to pick up the frames. I'll have DLSS and that is looking like a 30% boost from what I read.

So there is no benchmark game, but it's been silky smooth at 2560x1080 everything at high (I also have a gsync monitor with a 200 hertz refresh rate). There is no in game FPS or benchmark so I can't tell exactly what the framerate is but it's higher then what I posted, I just ball parked it.

Another WONDERFUL bug.... the survivor vision will quit working randomly for upwards of 10 to 15 seconds.

Thanks for the info El Pit, it must be another planned revenue stream. Actually handloading ammo and gunpower are common made items.
Guns already exist and would just need to be repaired, so that doesn't make any sense.

How to get gunpowder and metal if you cannot freely roam the surroundings anymore? It would make no sense. Mankind has lost, zombies are ruling the world for the last two decades. So IMO, it makes absolutely sense that ammo is a huge problem. But I would like it if you could actually find some gun and a tidy bit of ammo in the game from some big (human) villain who had this as a sign of his dominance.
But if you are only into shooters, then this is absolutely no game for you, Acleacius.

Solid 100fps stable with everything max but zero RTX settinge. 1440p. 3070.

The moment I enable anything RT, the performance tanks with at least 30fps. That's never worth it for me.
