Gone Gold - ELDEN RING

Taipei Game Show 2022 video for ELDEN RING is a presentation with a cinematic look at FromSoftware's upcoming action/RPG along with an in-house interview (thanks Gematsu). Word is: "Hear from producer, Yasuhiro Kitao, about the game mechanics, and find out his answers to some of your burning questions." Those burning questions cover gameplay, working with George RR Martin, and more. The conversation concludes with news that while a day-one patch is in the works, development is complete on the game. This makes if officially gold, and puts it on track for its most recent release date of February 25th. Here's word:
Elden ring was originally slated for release in January of this year, and it has been pushed back once to February. But please be assured, the title will be ready for sale on February 25th. The master version has already been submitted, and right now, the team is working on a day one patch to make sure everything in the game is just so.

I've watched videos on it and I know it's like Dark Souls ... but I still can't make up my mind on getting this or not.
Although we've all been burned by so many overly-hyped games in the past 2 years , I think I can wait for honest reviews.

It really does depend on if you enjoy the Souls-like style of gameplay and difficulty. Although Elden Ring isn't Dark Souls in name, ultimately it IS still a Souls-like game but now in an open-world and with a mount. Even with games from the same studio such as Bloodborne and Sekiro, they were both variants of the Souls-like formula with enough fundamental gameplay changes to be different from "Dark Souls." I would assume that Elden Ring would be similar in that regard but based off of what I've seen, it retains more Dark Souls-like methodical gameplay than the two variants that I've mentioned which were reliant on hyper-aggressive combat and parrying-counter attacks.

From Studios had a consoles-only open beta for Elden Ring and a bunch of the various Youtubers that I follow had videos showing off the gameplay of that beta. It's very similar to Dark Souls in regards to how combat feels but the open-world nature and mounted combat provided a big change to the Souls-like formula. I have a handful of online friends who are fully into the Dark Souls series so we're all pretty hyped for the release of Elden Ring. The only problem will be dividing our group for co-op since I would assume the limit for Elden Ring would still be 3 or 4 (depending on how many invaders we're willing to risk).

I cannot wait to buy this. I love the Dark Souls series (haven't played Demon Souls due to lack of PlayStation consoles). Playing them co-op is a blast. I really hope Elden Ring's co-op is good.

Demon's Souls is pretty playable in ps3 emulation on the PC if you have a reasonably decent computer. It's... rough these days, but it's still one of my favorites of the series just because of all of just weird jank and 100% imbalanced nature of it all.

In the last 2 years, there has been a trend of game trailers released that show people talking about the game, instead of just pure gameplay have had issues, and are on a wait and see basis. As much as I'd like to dive into Dying Light 2, I'm reminded of all the delays and all the people talking instead of showing the game like Cyberpunk 2077.

It looks awesome, but why on earth do they have to make the co-op system so... terrible and cumbersome.

Just let us play the game all the way through with friends if we choose.

You can do that, if you and your friends put a password into the network menu. Then you exclusively invite each other. It worked beautifully in DS3, except for the couple of areas which are single player only.

I guess the issue is that you have to repeat each level for each member of your party, so you may end up doing the same level 3 times in a row, but it gives everyone a chance to let loose, as they have virtually no consequences when in the phantom form.

Thanks, i hope you are right!!

From what i read you need to find a summoning point and use a consumable item, then your friend had to have fingers or something to be able to join...

People were saying it only worked if you had completed the same boss (and only the hosts progress was saved in co-op), and you had to stay near each other / possibly time limited as well? Oh, and that the horses/mounts weren't available in co-op.

Hopefully it's not that limited or painful! These days it should really just be finding a friend in steam and clicking join party, done. Drop in / drop out and progress saved for everyone. Not sure why we need all the other nonsense. Guess i'll just play the wait and see game...

Yes, BUT, and it's a big but, you have to be officially diagnosed by your primary care physician with RBF before insurance will agree to cover the cost of the operation. No RBF diagnosis, and you'll have to pay that $10,000 out of pocket.

Also, apparently Elden Ring is Dark Souls, but with less stress.
A new gameplay overview of Elden Ring has revealed FromSoftware's focus on making sure players aren't overly stressed while playing the game – but seemingly without reducing the difficulty you'd expect from Souls game enemies.

It's going to be awesome. Single player is tense and thrilling. Co-op with friends though, that is something else entirely, because you can all make characters have weaknesses and strengths, but as a group you all complement each other. Like having a tank, dps guy, healer etc. A proper dungeon party. You can block a narrow hallway with a giant shield, and have the guys behind you poke with spears or cast magic past you and all of those typical medieval warfare tactics!

Dark Souls games just get better and better as each new game refines the gameplay and stat mechanics more and more. Demon Soul's and even the first Dark Souls feel incredibly clunky compared to the sleek combat and movement of Dark Souls 3. And this looks like another step up from the what I've seen in the network beta.

IMO the graphics could have been more "next gen" and maybe they will be with ray tracing patch after release. But to me that's also a good sign, because it means they've focused on the gameplay and stats and world rather than shiny things.

i would suggest people think twice to play coop in this game for PC, this game is also use the same engine as DS3 and their netcode should be very similar as well.

This remote code execution vulnerability is seriously shit...

if you have played any of the fromsoft games, yes, they have difficult combat, but they also have incredible world building. Elden ring appears to be made more accessible to casual players (vs the opposite with sekiro)
