Raven QA Strike Ends

Following the news that the Raven QA department is forming a Union, The ABK Workers Alliance tweets that the strike they've been conducting has come to an end:
Pending the recognition of our union, the Raven QA strike has ended. Unused strike funds are being stored for future organizing/strike efforts.

We'll post or retweet any GWU updates here. Appreciate all the community support throughout the strike!

Which game companies have QA unions? Does EA and Epic have them?

Most game companies do not have unions. My guess would be no.
Neither do most industries in any way related to software.

It's a relatively new industry that kicked off during the "everything is awesome!" years where high skilled workers were rare and in demand everywhere, to a post-double recession economy where those same skilled workers are a dime a dozen and any large enough company can cycle half their workforce in a year and not notice a thing.

I think it has more to do with the relative rarity of unions for salaried employees. The broader software/IT industry (for lack of a better term I guess) has a contentious, and maybe even illogical, exemption from overtime laws. Unions often bargain over things like hours and overtime rates/offerings and among salaried employees exempt from overtime those are often non-applicable.

Unionization in the US has been on the down trend in general anyway. As a person in a red state, people here are convinced unions are grifters and fronts for abortion PACs. I have to say, the right has been fairly successful ####### working Americans.

That's it? Well that was fast. It was only a few days. Would have made a bigger impact and conveyed a stronger message if the strike was at least a few weeks. I mean, look at the public transit strikes on how to do it...months long strikes...

They did start the strike in early December, so it's been going for at least a month and a half.

From one of the linked articles:

According to Jason Schreier this is the "first-ever union in the big-budget video game industry *in North America*."
Oh wow, thanks.

I haven't been following this story closely but does that mean Activision has agreed to recognize their union?

Sounds like it. Given the pending merger I can't foresee them wanting to make any waves and being on their best behavior. They won't give anyone a reason to deny the merger if they can help it.
