Out of the Blue

No Time to Die coming back to theaters for James Bond's 60th birthday (thanks Neutronbeam). Dammit! I'm definitely still not ready to sit in a movie theater with people yet. And we've discussed the negative aspects of the experience. But I'm still old-school enough that I can't shake that feeling that some movies are meant to be seen on the big screen. The latest Bond movie doesn't even really fall into that category, but I'm still ticked I missed it in the theater. But way beyond that on the frustration scale is how a restored version of 'The Godfather' will hit theaters next month in celebration of the film's 50th anniversary. This is very close to the top of my list of favorite movies, and I've only seen it on a television. But even more frustrating, the fine folks at TCM continue the TCM Big Screen Classics program with short-run special revivals. Next week? They are showing Casablanca, in honor of its 80th anniversary. That is my favorite film of all time, and I feel cheated that I will not be able to sing along to La Marseillaise with a bunch of teary-eyed fellow film buffs. Oh well, maybe things will have changed by September, when they celebrate the 40th anniversary of The Wrath of Khan.

No Time To Die was awesome when my colony and I saw it in our safe nest. They loved Godfather movies, but I thought they were OK (too long and slow for my taste). I can see why they're good. Casablanca bored me. The Wrath of Khan was good.

Obviously, it is somewhat random. I also solved it in three guesses in 3 of my first 5 attempts. Since then, while I have yet to fail, my average guess count is up. But also, in two or three games now, I made strategic guesses which I knew weren't correct, but were likely to significantly reduce the remaining possibilities. "Proxy" scared me a bit, I got it in six, but there were still other possible words it could have been, so I might be willing to burn a guess if it will increase my chances to keep my streak alive...

Hard to say, a signer's ability appears to be significantly subjective. I mean I thought it was obvious Bob Dylan was a terrible singer, but many, many people seemed to think otherwise. Dylan is a great song writer, but I thought he absolutely sucked as a singer. Like I said Mr. Aday had a couple of good songs....

Yeah, he was a rock singer though. You don't need brains for that, just good pipes. It's shitty he was that kind of moron but he made some great effing music though.

With Omicron as the dominant strain, I will forever question your intelligence if you go to a movie theatre right now. Maybe not your intelligence so much as your survival instincts. A movie is not a good reason to possibly be exposed to a quickly mutating pandemic. Use your brains people, you will live longer. Sure, Omicron isn't AS fatal, but if you are dying from C19....is there any movie you can imagine that would have been worth it?

But let's say you're in the "hurr durr I wants tuh normalz" crowd and you survive a COVID infection. Congratulations, you just signed up to be part of the Long COVID test group! Your prizes* are waiting for you! So come on down!

Personally, I don't give a shit if someone is "pandemic fatigued". Suck it up, princess, keep your shit wired tight, and carry on. Nobody gives a fuck about how you feel. This isn't kindergarten and you can virtually visit with a licensed therapist if you just can't possibly keep your shit wired tight. As much of a misanthrope as I am, I have no interest in joining the infantile, irresponsible dickhead brigade who just has to go to concerts, theatres, bars, restaurants, etc so I can kill the immunocompromised, the elderly, and kids.

I am completely with you, for now. That said, I completely understand people being "done" with it at this point. Hell, it has impacted me less than most anyone -- retired, living alone, already mostly a homebody. Even so, I've felt the impact, the limited in person events I do have in my schedule were suspended just like everyone else (even if they were limited compared to others).

The effect on me has been limited because I'm not that social a person anyway. I went several years without talking to either of my sisters. Not out of any conscious effort, it simply wasn't important enough to me. I was busy living my life, they were busy living theirs. (and it was a time before cell phones made causal contact so easy) It has been especially hard for people on the other end of the social scale from me. So, I get it. I'm sticking with the restrictions for now, but I can imagine a time when I might join the "ahh, just fuck it" crowd...

Even if death isn't your concern, consider not contributing to the spread of the disease just in general. It is spreading just fine on account of the Darwin award winners in our midst, if the healthy folks that can take a week or two of a heavy cold just ignore this...it is going to continue to mutate and get worse...particularly for those with compromised immune systems or some kind of pulmonary or cardiac disease. I get that some of the rules and stuff seem a bit over the top or contradictory but I am fairly sure there aren't many folks here stupid enough to literally test fate by walking into a C19 ward unmasked or something. That is what a movie theater potentially is....a bunch of people who are contagious. The difference is that at the movie you don't know who they are.

As far as anti-vaxxer is concerned, Meat Loaf didn't spew much of that nonsense.

Surely he is more widely remembered as Eddie in RHPS? 108 actor credits in IMDB. He was in a lot more stuff than I ever knew about or would have guessed...
