Nearly everyone is looking backwards here. Microsoft and all the other big players have their eyes on one thing, the huge worldwide mobile/cloud/subscription model. PC's and consoles are irrelevant and tertiary to that.

It means priority game development will be for mobile first, with PCs and consoles relegated to eventual obscurity.

But seriously, God of War and Spider-man were some really great titles that made me buy a ps4 pro. But that did not keep me on the platform and I sold the console shortly after. Will probably do the same for PS5 when it actually has more games I'm interested in like Returnal.

Microsoft is not spending almost $70 billion bucks to just keep things as is. Reality check, Sony: You. Are. Toast.

I don't think Sony should be threatened too much by this acquisition. I mean, what did MS really get? A toxic workplace, the tired CoD series of games, and developer who hasn't made a good game in almost 10 years (and most of their original creative talent are long gone). All that, for $69B, and they don't even have a phone 🤣

Sony can expect future "Microsoft" games stay in PS platform. Microsoft is a SOFTWARE company. Microsoft do not mind they can MAKE $$$$ by selling games (software) on Sony platform. But it will be naive for Sony to expect Microsoft games to be a Sony platform exclusive. "Playstation exclusive" had been the main console war strategy for Sony for decades. The main objective for Microsoft to spend many BILLIONS is to fight against this.

I can see in future that some Microsoft games will have a "time exclusive" on Xbox(/PC) first, like for 3/6/12 months, then available for PS afterwards.

SELLING GAMES (and nowadays digital shit in games) are the "meat" in game console business.

Warzone and all already released COD games will remain on PS. COD for 2022 and likely 2023 will also be on PS. COD for 2024+ remains on PS only if there was some contractual agreement between Sony and Activision that Microsoft doesn't want to break.

Sony will be fine without COD. In all likelihood Sony will develop their own FPS to compete with COD. They probably won't be able to churn one out each year, but it will be enough for PS COD fans to remain satisfied. Sony most likely has at least three years to develop a replacement so they should be able to release something that's at least decent.

I suspect MS will double-down on their Xbox/Windows exclusivity goal of releasing games on the Windows Games Store and Steam. So I would expect to see an extensive catalog of Activision/Blizzard/King games coming to Steam within a year or two, with the caveat that Battle.net is required.

Activision Blizzard games will definitely stay on Playstation for the near term. All the deals that were made with Sony and Act/Bliz will be valid for some time into the future given that games have multi year development maps. I'd say at least 2-4 years for current and in development IP, before MS can start to lock down the games to XBox/PC only. So Sony is right in that case and they can announce that now in the press and slow down the slide of their stock price.

In response, Sony has purchased Harold and Kumar's garage games, I hear. Goodnight, Sony.

Contracts run out so yes all those old games will be on the PS5 but new ones not envisioned yet would need new contracts.

Lulz @ Sony.

Real deal? And the evidence of that is? I still see them as focused on the Xbox first and foremost. If anything I imagine we'll be back to more shittier console ports instead.
