I agree, making a board game in 2008 with the name of an event that took on new meaning in 2019, was way too soon.
Few read blues comments much less the comments posted here. The steam game was released in 2018 well before the "too soon" covid pandemic.
I think we as customers are due more explanation than the boilerplate bullshit we got "

It looks like the only mention of pandemic in the news on this site was when it hit Xbox game pass in July of 2019.
