What if one day, humans woke up to find that they weren’t alone in the galaxy? They make their way into space and discover other alien civilizations with their own histories and motivations looking to make a name for themselves. Choose your race - Human, Drengin, Altarian, and so many more - and lead your civilization into a golden age in one of the largest 4X strategy games ever made!
Research new technology, design starships, and colonize new worlds as you face threats and conquer challenges from new and mysterious sources. Negotiate trade and treaties, wage wars, spy on your enemies, and promote outstanding citizens. And when you've finished that, play again as one of the many included alien civilizations each with its own history, technology tree, ship components, and more.

I enjoyed Gal Civ 2. How different is this?
It's old with 7 year old play mechanics. It's not that fundamentally different from GC2 though the ship designing is goddamned atrocious in it with very clunky controls. You can design cool ships but you'll be spending some time doing it. Something you'll need to do to maximize your ship class because the default designs are merely "ok".

That old conversation was about the viability of the EGS business model, which I was not opposed to, but wondered simply about its effectiveness long term. Given that they're still giving away free games, the jury is still out. My question here, even though I already had the game in my library from the last time, is this: "is this game different enough to justify learning and playing given that I have a lot of hours in GC2 already?" There was none of that kind of discussion last time.jdreyer wrote on Jan 13, 2022, 19:21:Someone dared make a comment about how they liked the game the last time Epic gave it away, there was always a failed Nostradamus prediction amongst the fray.
