New Serious Sam This Month?

A tweet from Devolver Digital seems to offer some serious news about Serious Sam. It's phrased as a hypothetical question, rather than a statement, but the clear implication is that a new installment in the fast-paced shooter series will be announced next week, and will arrive before the end of January:
What if a new Serious Sam game was being announced next week and released this month?

LOL Serious sam coop is not any type of "serious" coop, it is just casual, get some people online together, turn on infinite ammo and just plow through the levels.

Had so much fun playing Sam 4 with my son. Some of the best co-op fun all year.

If the new game is anything like that, ill buy it once it releases and clears the "it was released too early" reviews.

All i really play is co-op games these days... and to me it SS4 rates very low on the list, but i guess it depends on what your into (and your sons age).

Some recent co-op games which i enjoyed a hell of a lot more:
Valheim, Wildermyth, American Truck Simulator, Stardew Valley, Orcs Must Die franchise, Muck, It Takes Two, Satisfactory, Temtem, Dungeons 3, Bloons TD6, Scrap Mechanic, Risk of Rain 1 & 2, Green Hell, Age of Wonders franchise (esp 3).

SS4 was "a fun experience", but so, so broken as a game in so, so many aspects...

Whatever this is I'll still probably play it... once it hits Gamepass, EGS freebie, or a humble bundle...

SS4 felt like it was using an engine from like 15 years ago... terrible graphics, un-optimized. The level design was lame, and it was rather boring.

Or maybe i'm just old.

I loved the original games, SS1 & SS:SE, its how I learned to FPS. All this other stuff though, I suspect it is going to be some 2D game with serious sam skins. Croteam just can't seem to get into a good rhythm. Maybe more puzzle games would be better for them.

SS4 was almost vaporware - for how long it took. The game turned out ok, somewhat. EDIT: the final final level, was awful and exploitative of their marketing about how 1000000 enemies could be on the screen at the same time. It was a lie, and 99% of that shit was background noise and didn't actually exist in the game. Terrible level.

SS3 looked and played better than SS4 at launch, on the PC, which was a tad disgraceful. I haven't touched SS4 in over a year, but I assume beside the France level nothing has changed or been properly optimized. The SS4 port was full of issues, Croteams solutions were derp. And consider this, SS3 got a lot of shit at launch, warranted for the first 5 levels. With that acknowledged -- SS3 > SS4 for performance, variety and graphics. A game from 2011 I believe.

The side games in the SS series have never caught my attention and I'm a SS player since SS1. I won't give them a cent if this is some bullshit title reaping off of the name. The arcade shit can die.

I don't have much faith left in any SS announcement. Except for one smaller part of of their game development -- the sound and music of the SS series has since SS1 always been some of the best in the entire genre. Someone give the sound engineers and the composer a massive raise if they decide to stick with this franchise.

EDIT:

I would, likely, pay for a SS3 remaster
I would pay for a SS4 complete remaster with proof of MASSIVE improvements over the current release, and with a DISCOUNT for original SS4 buyers.
I wouldn't touch the first three games anymore, they've re-released them enough (SS1 FE, SE and SS2)
I doubt this announcement is for a proper SS5 - it is very likely for some spin-off shit no one actually cares about.

Want it !
Hope it's not one of those various silly 2D spin-offs they did.
Will it also have VR support? Please, fingers crossed.
