Tencent Acquires Turtle Rock

Chinese conglomerate Tencent announces it is back for blood, as it has acquired Slamfire, the parent company of Turtle Rock Studios, the developer behind the Left 4 Dead and Back 4 Blood franchises. Terms of the deal are not announced, but presumably it involves money and stuff. Here's word:
Turtle Rock will become part of Tencent, while retaining its independent operations out of Lake Forest, CA, USA, and its existing team will continue to run all studio operations, led by co-founders Phil Robb and Chris Ashton. The acquisition will have no effect on Back 4 Blood, Turtle Rock’s hit multiplayer action game, which is published by Warner Bros. Games.

“We are all looking forward to joining the Tencent family of studios,” said Steve Goldstein, president and general manager of Turtle Rock Studios. “Tencent’s outstanding partners, global reach, deep knowledge of gaming and unprecedented support will help us create the kinds of ambitious games we dream of, while allowing us to retain our autonomy and independent spirit.”

I mean, what is the point?

AFAICT studios bought up by Tencent have retained their employees, hired more, and haven't seen a decline in the quality or variety of the games they produce. Meanwhile studios bought up by EA or Activision or what-have-you tend to see mass firings, title cancellations, pigeonholing into specific genres/IPs, or outright closures.

At this point Tencent is doing everything it can to put as much money in the "western" market so it can be independent of the random whims of the CCP suddenly enacting absurd laws on the Chinese gaming market, and there's been zero evidence of any interference on behalf of Tencent on what their studios can produce/sell in regards to soclial or political themes, and zero evidence of any nefarious information gathering or sharing.

So, what is the point?
