ICARUS Flies Out

ICARUS is now available for Windows on Steam, offering the new PvE survival game from RocketWerkz, the studio formed by DAYZ creator Dean Hall. This post discusses the content in the content in the first chapter of the game, as well as XP bonuses currently in place. The news feed has details on a few hotfixes that have followed the launch. From their orbital station, prospectors drop to the planet surface for limited time sessions, where they learn to endure the alien environment, complete faction missions and search for valuable exotic materials. Those that survive return to orbit as seasoned veterans, converting their exotics into advanced technology, and taking on ever more challenging drops with newfound knowledge. Those that get left behind... are lost forever.

Icarus was once destined to be a second Earth, but when terraforming collapsed - the air turned toxic and humanity’s hopes of colonizing a new world died. Icarus became a joke, a symbol of humanity reaching for the stars and failing. Yet when xeno-biologists discovered the cause of the failure - exotic matter - new interest was ignited. Valuable beyond reckoning, these ‘exotics’ sparked a gold rush, fueling political tensions on Earth, and bringing prospectors flocking to Icarus.

From what I see every "instance" has a 7 DAY (real time!) time limit from the previous instance and it's basically The Forest.. without interesting enemies and.. no permanence. And once you leave with the dropship you can't back and all your inventory and stuff is lost.... yeah that's a hard sell heh

On paper it's a hard sell. But you know what? In games like Conan Exiles an Valheim I built my perfect abode in one day, felt like I peaked early and quit soon after. Here, it's hard to peak early and instead it's much more about the progression of your character and I think also about gradually exploring places and different planets. I like it. The lack of permanence is what I needed.
