NUKKLEAR will be taking on a co-development role, helping to realize the expanded scope of the title previously announced by Funcom. The studio was also recently awarded approximately 1.6 million EUR by the BMVI (Bundesministerium für Verkehr und Digitale Infrastruktur) as part of the “Computerspieleförderung des Bundes” German Federal Government Grant. The grant will be used to support in part NUKKLEAR’s development and production work on this project.
In 2019, Funcom announced that it had secured the rights to make a game based on the popular sci-fi franchise, Dune. The untitled project will take inspiration from Funcom’s most successful title, Conan Exiles, and be an online multiplayer survival game. After investment from Tencent, the Dune project greatly expanded its scope, and NUKKLEAR has been brought on to assist in completing it.

I am rereading the Dune series now, currently on Book 6 (Chapterhouse Dune). I'm even going to read the son's books 7 and 8, which I skipped the last time.
Specifically:
The Butlerian Jihad
The Machine Crusade
The Battle of Corrin
Outside the original novel which may be the greatest sci-fi novel ever written, books 5 & 6 are the best in the series, followed closely by 4.

You realize the Dune movie is as close to the source material (the book) as the director could get.
Yeah, but Funcom making a survival MMO isn't gonna get even close. And if they tried to do that that'd be way worse still no?![]()
eRe4s3r wrote on Dec 2, 2021, 17:46:How would a survival MMO even work? There was only ever one house on Dune at a time and it was typically the strongest or the one that showed it could manage spice production. They typically didn't start from scratch. They assumed the infrastructure from the previous fief. Having a bunch of independent players running around doesn't make sense in the context of the story. Unless the game will be from the Fremen point of view. That might work. But it would only work if players had to work together as the Fremen were forced to survive the elements.Fion wrote on Dec 2, 2021, 17:36:

And that's when I lost interest.
