Titanfall Delisted

Respawn tweets the announcement that Titanfall is no longer available for sale and will be removed from subscription services in March. This culminates a long-running stretch of online attacks and a confusing grassroots Save Titanfall campaign. This first installment in the multiplayer first-person shooter series first launched in 2014, but its seven-plus year run is not entirely over, as servers remain online for those who already own a copy. Here's the news, with more obsessing on DNA:
Pilots,

Titanfall is part of our DNA at Respawn. It's a game that showcased the ambitions of the studio when it was first released more than seven years ago and it continues to be a beacon of innovation that we strive for in all of our games.

We've made the decision to discontinue new sales of the original Titanfall game starting today and we'll be removing the game from subscription services on March 1 2022. We will, however, be keeping servers live for the dedicated fan base still playing and those who own the game and are looking to drop into a match.

Rest assured, Titanfall is core to Respawn's DNA and this incredible universe will continue. Today in Titanfall 2 and Apex Legends, and in the future. This franchise is a north star for the caliber of experiences we will continue to create here at Respawn.

Thank you from the entire Respawn team

If the multiplayer for both games is truly fucked, that explains why they yanked the original game and not the sequel. At least TF2 has a stellar, if short, single player campaign. The game often sells for $5, and the campaign is worth more than that.

Was really hoping for a TF3 with another incredible single player campaign, but that looks...unlikely.

Hrm, yeah, I guess I glanced at delisting, you're right, jacobvandy, they are leaving the servers up... that feels like a terrible mistake then; giving in to the DDOSers.

The problem and source of the DDOS attacks is that the servers are insecure as currently anyone can crash any instance spawned on Respawns virtual server instances and this leads to a total server crash, EVERY SINGLE TIME - the DDOS attacks started because Respawn refused to fix it and the game was sold when it was unplayable (not just a bit, but totally unplayable as bots trigger these crashes 100s of times per minute)

The fact Respawn doesn't even WANT to fix this is astounding given that they indeed sold the game until now. But whatever.. let them go down with Apex Legends. Another good developer lost to the void.

Also the fix is trivial.. well, if they had the source code still...

that's weird, why would they go to the effort of stopping selling something? it's EA

I wonder if this game will run in DDOS-BOX?

Well, what were people expecting? That hacking attempts and DDOS would lead to them leaving the servers up? Lol.

It says the servers are staying up, they're just not gonna sell it anymore. Maybe a remaster is incoming?
