The problem with your hypothetical is that we don't really live in a vacuum and the manga, and subsequently the anime, have existed for over 2 decades, it's highly improbable that anyone going to watch it won't have had some exposure to the source works. Those that have somehow done this are probably going to find it pretty much all flash and no substance.
