Out of the Blue

Operation undam the damn dam is still underway, a day longer than expected. As I said, I think the timing of all this hinges on when the beaver or beavers responsible for the project have been captured. But there must be some activity related to this, as the ducks are extremely agitated. They keep swimming about as if seeking a destination they can't locate, and a couple of the females are incessantly quacking in alarm. So I think it's safe to say we're not the only residents who will be relieved when the dam gets taken down and the pond is back to normal.

Okay, I gotta ask. Is the "Dunning-Kruger effect" actually part of your vocabulary, or did you look it up? But you are absolutely correct, that is exactly what is happening.
I started using it as soon as the study hit the news years ago. It's a perfect encapsulation of specific behaviors and the mentality of some individuals. In a similar vein, see my sig.

I lived through the Vietnam war decade and always thought it was the most socially divisive period of my life in the USA. You were either against it and the authorities behind it, or you were for it and waved the flag.

I was wrong, Covid (thanks to lots of enabling from Farcebook and Faux News) has divided the country far worse than the Vietnam war did, resulting in 13 times the number of deaths (783,565 vs 58,220). With covid you either have common sense and a grade school understanding of science or your deeply into conspiracy theories and a walking example of the Dunning Kruger Effect while doing everything possible to help the virus spread and kill more people.

Do you think democratic nations never limit freedom?

No lockdowns is fine if you enforce masking (esp N95) and vaccinations to access public places.

Now all you have to do is convince the clowns taking the vaccine is a good idea. If you succeed you will be hailed as a hero.

The Game Awards voting is open. They give you a selection of 5 to 6 choices. They don't explain WHY they chose those games. There's a quick blurb under the category that sums things up, like for Game of the Year, they have "Recognizing a game that delivers the absolute best experience across all creative and technical fields." It doesn't explain why they chose Deathloop, It Takes Two, Metroid Dread, Psychonauts 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and Resident Evil Village. What about those games delivers the absolute best experience across all creative and technical fields?

Further, many aren't award-worthy. For example, for Best Sim/Strategy, they have Evil Genius 2: World Domination. The game is sitting on an Overall Score of 63% (70% Recent) on Steam. There's no way a game with a 63% score should even be nominated for anything. Further, I saw virtually no mention of indie titles in any main category except two dedicated Indie categories, both with an eclectic mix of games from different genres. The whole thing feels rigged.
