Out of the Blue

As I've mentioned in the past, a delightful aspect of the latest incarnation of the BlueTower is how our little townhouse overlooks a fairly substantial pond. Hardly a day goes by that we don't get to experience the joy of nature through the antics of the swans, ducks, geese, herons, and turtles that make it their home. We've had a new concern lately, however, as the water level of the pond became alarmingly high following the recent storms. This seems weird, as we've certainly had heavy rains in the past that did not have the same result. Yesterday we got an explanation, and it's more of the joys of nature. We were informed that a wildlife control expert was on hand to deal with a beaver dam that was blocking up the pond's overflow stream. He was here yesterday, and is expected back today. I did a little quick research into how this works, and am relieved to see that this seems to be the humane version of the process. If they planned what's straightforwardly called a "lethal removal," it would be done already. The extra time is to trap him the beaver or beavers, as they are described as "trap averse" (not sure much wildlife is trap friendly). So it seems they are being relocated. This is good, as we certainly don't need to punish the clever little rodents for their engineering prowess. But it is a relief to know the dam or dams will be dismantled. There's more rain in the forecast, and at this point it wouldn't take much more to get that pond to crest.

Read yesterday about your weight losing unplanned spree, sorry to hear it.

Please take care, friend, in this Covid times some muscle and adiposity to burn while unable to eat solids, can be a critical life giving edge when seriously ill.

I appreciate your concern. I'm OK, though. I had, and still have, plenty to lose. Saw my doc today and she isn't overly concerned because she expected it. What she did not expect was my A1C level to drop three whole points in 90 days so I am solidly back in the "normal" range. So that's a win.

What did concern her most is the fact that in the last six weeks, I've only have four nights of 6 hours or more of sleep. The rest have been 2-4 hours at most. So I get to take an SSRI (Lexapro) with a new sleeping med for a one-two punch to get me to sleep. We'll see how that goes.

At least I fit comfortably in my favorite Lightning t-shirt again, so there's that.

Often? Yes. Always? Don't know.

In fiction you see lesser charges left out because the prosecution doesn't want the jury to compromise and convict on the lesser charge. I have no idea if that has any basis in reality. In this particular case there were lesser charges, the endangerment charges. And they weren't able to convict on those. Given that, my suggestion for some type of manslaughter charge seems unlikely to have prevailed.

It might be interesting to jump ahead in time 50 years and see how the rest of Rittenhouse's life goes. I'm guessing the next couple of years won't be the greatest...

And yes, no surprises that someone's migraines would go, without even reading the article I'm assuming it'll be lower blood pressure, less plaque better artery function (it works elsewhere too gentlemen, which is why everyone's dad was going vegan after watch Game Changers, particular the erection scene).

Rittenhouse was dying to carry an automatic rifle, all that power in those soft hands, and though illegally, he did !
Though others, even if helping in the drama, finally died because of his idiocy.

And after so American an outcome: nothing happened here at all , just a glorious gun toting stroll, the floodgates are now wide open for other dumb jerks to emulate him.

Let the competition begin. Or go on.

From what I've read the DA was overly aggressive in the charging. Rittenhouse probably should have been found guilty of something, but possibly something he wasn't actually charged with. IANAL, but my layman's guess would be maybe something like reckless manslaughter, perhaps? Although if they couldn't convict on endangerment... maybe not. And of course, the outcome might have been significantly different with a different judge.

When you charge someone with something, you also charge them with the lesser includeds. So reckless manslaughter should be included in any murder charge. The judge can screw that up, and this judge was horrible, but it appears to me (and I haven't looked closely) that this was ultimately the right verdict.

But, again, he and his mom are probably going to end up getting OJed for how heavily and obviously their poor decisions led to this.

Also went to San Marco and San di Lorenzo too. The former being the abbey that was the home of Fra Angelica, and Savonarola as well. Saw Fra's famous Annunciation finally. Beautiful, but I never realized it was painted in situ before.

San di Lorenzo was mighty impressive as that's the final resting place of the Medici. You come to realize just how powerful they were when you see this place and it was mostly designed by Michelangelo and Donatello.

The tombs with his day and night, and dawn and dusk sculptures are glorious.

The dome in the cathedral proper is breathtaking. The Renaissance is really fucking mind blowing in person. I can only imagine what it must have been like seeing this stuff as a peasant back then.
