Kotick Petition Gains Steam; Xbox "Evaluating" ActiBlizz Relationship

A tweet from ABetterABK says over 500 current Activision Blizzard employees have signed a petition calling for the removal of Bobby Kotick as CEO. A check of the petition shows that it now has more than double that number of signatures (1222 as of this writing). There's more on the harassment scandal at Activision Blizzard on Bloomberg (may require registration or subscription), where it's reported that Xbox boss Phil Spencer told staff that Microsoft is "evaluating all aspects of our relationship with Activision Blizzard and making ongoing proactive adjustments." The Verge reports receiving confirmation of this from Microsoft. It is worth noting that, like similar comments yesterday from PlayStation boss Jim Ryan, this was an internal communication, rather than a more damning public statement. But it is still not good news for embattled CEO Bobby Kotick that both of these major platform holders are expressing such misgivings. A tweet from GamesIndustry relates Activision Blizzard's reaction to Sony and Microsoft:
UPDATE: Activision has responded to Sony and Microsoft's comments, saying "We respect all feedback from our valued partners and are engaging with them further"

I think it stems from their inability to process something that can be evidence of a systematic problem (like my cousin, whose wife was airlifted to a hospital with breathing issues last month, and he claims she didn't have covid until after she was on the ventilator, because admitting she had it prior shatters his worldview), combined with their fear that they may get accused of doing something bad when they do things they know is questionable but think is really just fine.

A lot of the things people are calling him out for he has already admitted to, there isn't a question of guilt or innocence. Are you implying his behavior is acceptable? You guys who lean right really need to pause, take a breath, think about the situation, and then speak. This taking the opposite position stuff without ever looking at the situation is tiresome. It has been for a long time now...
Sure, but it doesn't matter:
- If he knew about such a widespread problem and let it continue, then employees are right to lose confidence in him and demand his resignation.
- If he didn't know about such a widespread problem, then he's completely out of touch with the goings on at his company, and employees are right to lose confidence in him and demand his resignation.

What boggles the mind is that anyone would defend him. CEOs defending other execrable CEOs, I've seen that in op/eds or what not. Not a good look and tone deaf, but I can comprehend it since one CEO can put himself in another's shoes. What I can't wrap my mind around is when regular folks defend the ultra wealthy. They aren't your friend and never will be. You also will never be in their position. To most of them you're just a resource to be exploited for their greater gain.

What exactly is a gaming activist?

Of course it matters whether he's guilty or innocent but thankfully we know he's guilty so it's a moot point. "Take down" lol. Are you for real? This guy has a golden parachute that beggars the career lifetime earnings of half the board here. The only real justice will be getting him out so he can't keep running a company where the internal culture literally permits having a Cosby suite.

You should be ashamed of yourself. Imagine your wife or daughter had to endure 1/10th of this on a daily basis. You'd be at their office with weapons.

Weird comment when he's already admitted to much of this.
The gaming keyboard warriors (you) are so quick to defend anything that you seem to not even educate yourself on what's going on.

"Guilty" or "innocent" means fuckall. The buck stops with him. He failed to control things at his company, so the employees, the board, the stockholders are well within their rights to try and oust him. He fucked up, and it's his responsibility. You're obviously a Republican using terms like "wokies." JFC, whatever happened to "personal responsibility." If he can't handle the position, he should resign already.

Take one gander at the lack of reaction these companies have had towards Ubisoft and it becomes obvious that all of this is happening simply because Acti-Bliz can't stop being in the headlines. It's disappointing that there seems to be no real repercussions, but that's the state of the world today.

A shrug pretty much sums it up for me. Yeah, he's not a good guy. There are far too many of them and seemingly more than you would expect/hope at the top of corporate ladders. But I'm not sure it really matters much if he stays or goes. He'll still be a dick, he'll still be a multi-million, and I wouldn't expect the company to make a U-turn on putting out new games either way. Even if he leaves I'd predict he has another job before long.
