Darkest Dungeon II Selling Well in Early Access

Darkest Dungeon II is now available in Early Access on the Epic Games Store, offering a roguelike sequel from Red Hook Studios (yo Brooklyn!). Though its only been available for around 24 hours, this tweet notes it has already sold more than 100,000 copies, saying, "our journey has just begun." Here's a bit on the game:
Gather your courage and ride out into the chaos of a world undone.
Darkest Dungeon II is a roguelike road trip of the damned. Form a party, equip your stagecoach, and set off across a decaying landscape in a last gasp attempt to avert the apocalypse. The greatest dangers you face, however, may come from within...

Roguelike Runs; Even Failure Moves You Forward
Each expedition is less than 5 hours, and progress you make opens up new hero abilities, items, and stagecoach upgrades that can be used on your next journey.

The level of RNG the first game had was so extreme, playing it is only for those who like to torture themselves or like the idea of some random person slapping their dick when they least expect it. I can't imagine any other type of person wanting to play that game.

I played the first one until the final dungeon then said, "Nope, don't want to lose all this work" and quit. Never bought any of the expansions. While I enjoyed it (mostly) it really crosses over that line of "too punishing and frustrating" for me. If you have unlimited time to grind and unlimited patience, I could see being heavily invested, but I just don't really have it. More of a dislike of roguelikes and roguelights in general, though.
You could theoretically find the save location and back that up

Aside: Steam has nearly half* the total number of EGS's entire user base** visiting daily. So there's that.
* 62.6 million
** 160 million

Using the same sources, I could also state that EGS already has nearly half as many monthly active users* as Steam**, despite having been around for 3 years compared to Steam's 18.
* 56 million
** 120 million

EGS: 31.3 million daily visitors / 160 million accounts. EGS has more of the same visitors simply because there's a smaller pool size.
Steam: 62.6 million daily visitors / +1 billion accounts. A publisher has a better opportunity to get their game in front of new daily visitors.

The game, vanilla or with DLC, is definitely a punishing experience that tends to kill off some of your favorite party members via bad dice rolls. I started using some mods to even it out a little bit, most importantly the No-Negative Trinkets or whatever it's called, mod. That at least tips the scales a little bit in your favor without completely blowing up the game design.

That said, I don't think them doubling or tripling down on the rogue like aspect for the sequel is what I'm looking for, although I'll guess I'll check in again in a year or two when it's patched and on Steam/GoG.

Waiting for 1.0 here and of course, a Steam release. I loved the first game.

Using Steam to build up a fan base and then going exclusive on EGS for the early-access sequel. It's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for 'em.

Wow, thats a different structure than the original. Heartening to see them try something new instead of just rinse and repeating.

Once it is available elsewhere, picking this up. Epic is just bad news.
