I played the first one until the final dungeon then said, "Nope, don't want to lose all this work" and quit. Never bought any of the expansions. While I enjoyed it (mostly) it really crosses over that line of "too punishing and frustrating" for me. If you have unlimited time to grind and unlimited patience, I could see being heavily invested, but I just don't really have it. More of a dislike of roguelikes and roguelights in general, though.
The game, vanilla or with DLC, is definitely a punishing experience that tends to kill off some of your favorite party members via bad dice rolls. I started using some mods to even it out a little bit, most importantly the No-Negative Trinkets or whatever it's called, mod. That at least tips the scales a little bit in your favor without completely blowing up the game design.
That said, I don't think them doubling or tripling down on the rogue like aspect for the sequel is what I'm looking for, although I'll guess I'll check in again in a year or two when it's patched and on Steam/GoG.
