Out of the Blue

MrsBlue and I are going to head out today to get our flu shots. This is an annual thing for us, though we're much later than usual. It's been that kind of year. The approval of COVID-19 booster shots just came down a couple of days ago, so that's not officially part of the plan. But we do want to discuss it with the doctor, and if things work out, we're open to taking another jab. This is slightly complicated by the fact that MrsBlue and I got the J&J vaccine. This was initially known as the "one and done" shot, though this eventually evolved into the "probably should have been two doses all along" shot. In reading about booster testing, the data seem to show that a second J&J shot greatly increases efficacy, but that switching to one of the RNA-based vaccines will provide even more protection. So well see what the doctor says and take it from there.

Round-up Shots

Annual flu shots are easy. Just minor muscle pains. So far, I got four shots this year! Dang. I hope I don't get more for 2021! This COVID-19 needs to go away already!
Four?! Goodness. I hope your okay Ant.

Hi jdreyer !
Well, I qualified "low" with "comparatively" !. Bah, just quibbling

Anyway, this is the article I was considering, admittedly one of so many different ones.
"Among U.S. adults without immunocompromising conditions, vaccine effectiveness against COVID-19 hospitalization during March 11–August 15, 2021, was higher for the Moderna vaccine (93%) than the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine (88%) and the Janssen vaccine (71%)."

https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-02532-4

There was another article with much more dramatic results, focusing on antibodies count over time.
Searching for it but I'm currently debilitated with SSS (Steam Sale Syndrome).

I read tons on the subject and Moderna is the best and more potent vaccine by far as per latest informed consensus.
So potent that Moderna announced that just a half dose is perfect for a booster one.

Complementing a J&J with a full dose of Moderna would be truly the best shot, as considered by official health panels.

And I would choose any other over J&J, too many gross missmanagements, millions of dosis spoiled, misdirecting, and known low efficacy even with 2 doses, comparatively.

I wouldn't say the J & J efficacy is "low," just a bit lower than Moderna or Pfizer. It's still way better than Sinovac or Sputnik or being unvacc'd. Check out the comparison here (scroll down half way to see the vacc maker comparisons).

As for me, I'm either scheduling my booster on a Friday or taking the next day off of work because that second shot kicked my ass.

Yeah considering how my first Biontech shot took me out I don't think I'd mix FLU vs COVID - it hit me like a truck on the 2nd day, full range, breathing problems, muscle pains in the whole body etc. 2 weeks between shots minimum imo.

So, if anyone has been talking about Prime's Wheel of Time series I managed to miss it. Never read the books, do the people who did have any hope the series will be any good?

Is the series out yet? I had no idea it was out yet. (Checks IMDB) Apparently coming Nov 19th. Yeah well, no idea really. It kind of looks like it could be somewhat faithful to the books? I remember imagining it as being a bit more nitty and gritty in my head while I read the books. Apart from the Aes Sedai, which come across as these beautiful un-ageing women who wear perfect make-up and dresses all the time. The first three books were rather good, then the series steadily went downhill from there so that I gave up by about the 4th "fake" eyeroll inducing ending (If you ever read the books, or the series lasts that long you'll see what I mean) by about book seven. I don't think there is anywhere near the potential to be as good as GoT, even with the flawed last season taken into consideration, unless they deviate from the books by a large, very large margin towards the end there.

I received the Johnson and Johnson vaccine on March 7. The drugstore where I had got it has all three vaccines and all comers are welcome to anyone of them. So now I have to make a decision on which one to get next.

I’m gonna try for the Moderna. It has 20 micrograms more gravy.

The trailers for the series look worse than the books, and those aren't great. The overall story arch is interesting and there are certainly interesting elements to the fiction and good character development - though how he writes men and women on the whole is terribly cliched - but Jordan was just obsessed with extraneous minutiae. He could spend three pages describing the clothes a particular Aes Sedai wore. It was always like, 'Jesus, just get on with the story already.' It was so long ago but I think I stopped reading around book 5 or 6? Yeah, looking at the series now I quit after book 6. The Aiel - desert nomads - are a lot of fun though.

Also I'm calling BS on the Liver Transplant story. As the story even states "While we cannot confirm causality, this disproportionate increase in association with increasing alcohol sales may indicate a relationship with known increases in alcohol misuse during COVID-19." Everything that was a source of "comfort" sales went up during the pandemic, alcohol, food, candy, games, books, social media useage, hell was even reading a story today that cig sales went up for the first time in like 10 years during the pandemic. Hell they even link another study that says the first one is bogus.
Hell my neighbor died because he needed a liver after getting COV-ID. He also needed kidney's after doing any sort of drug he could get his hands on.

Horrible "health" story that should never have been published. (Nothing against ya Blue)

No no no no! Nerf Guns! And they are reuseable! Very Eco Friendly!

You probably don't want to reuse anything that might become a biohazard. To be eco friendly, you could have the darts themselves be biodegradable.

Just remember, you don't have to lead the women and children so much.

Well 2 things
1) I meant the Nerf bullet part
2) If we have to go to these lengths to vaccinate people, screw it might as well re-use the syringes too

As for multiple vaccinations at once.... gonna guess when ya had all your shots (like most of us do at birth), there has been enough data to know that it shouldn't be a problem.
What is a few days gonna matter and just be a bit cautious?

Yes if in the same arm. Not necessary if 2 different arms... Or so some doctor said on TV up here last week.

Why not do both? Different arm and spaced by a week? #StaySafe

Nothing to do with diffrent arms, in general one can develop side effect from a vacine, if both are given at same time and a person gets a reaction after a while anywhere in or on the body they can not tell what caused it.

Ever travelled in some countries, especially in Africa? They can sometimes give you several different vaccines at the same time so *shrugs*.

I was there the prior two weeks, and yes, tons of shots.
