They'll probably keep it online-only going forward. It allows them much more control over the Q&A and their exposure, when and how the panels go, and there's no pressure on the staff to work long hours prepping for the live event. Overall I think those are good things.
Never been to one myself, partially due to the cost but also because I don't enjoy being in as loud and crowded an environment as BlizzCon was.
The one thing that online only loses is players/fans meeting each other in person, which from what I can tell was a major part of why those players/fans enjoyed BlizzCon. And unlike the memes, it wasn't about getting laid for the majority of attendees, it was about celebrating various franchises people loved with other people who felt the same way.
