It didn't look necessarily bad (though it did). It looked very strange.

It looks like the original, but with more polys.

Damn peeps are picky AF.

If there's something to complain about, it's that these remasters look subpar compared to others of their ilk.

Yes. Like the original with more polygons. But it just looks so surreal. I don't know why. I felt weird watching that video. I'm fine playing these games with the original graphics.
Now we donce.

But R* wants everyone through their launcher. I hope they at least offer a proper offline mode.
Constantly having to verify I owned GTAV when I just wanted to be left alone in offline mode pushed me to find another method to play the game in peace. It also saved me tens of gigs in downloads for multiplayer stuff I didn't care about anyway.

I'd be interested to know how to play offline. I fire it up every now and then just go goof off, and have to sit through updates for the launcher, the social club, updates for MP content, then re-log in because every time the launcher updates it forgets your login credentials, sometimes making me complete a CAPTCHA or two. I hadn't realized how big the game has grown with all the MP content updates. It's just over 100GB now. I had a backup I made back when it first released and it was under 50GB.

I had a feeling people would complain. The old GTAs were restrained by the power of the time. Realistic graphics at that scale just weren't possible, so they went with a stylized art style. Everything up through GTA:SA looked cartoony. And when PCs finally had the oomph to make the graphics realistic, they changed the style by rebooting the entire universe rather than just have everything suddenly look different (the old ones were the '3d Universe', the new ones the 'HD Universe.' )

They had completely different art styles and a different feel. With a remaster, they had a choice: They could make them look like GTA 5, hyper-realistic, but they'd be changing the whole flavor and style of the game. Or they could just make the cartoony look they were limited to into the visual canon and maintain the original art style and feel.

I think they made the right choice.

Looks like they just added some tesselation to the models to make things rounder. I don't see any new data, except maybe on the main characters. Textures also looked like they were uprezzed. Probably ran them through one of those AI filters. Either way, looks like a pretty lazy upgrade, and no where even close to GTA 5, which is already 8 years old.

No it doesn't, tessellation doesn't do to models what they did in this trailer.

While I understand the argument of potential lost sales from mods, I still feel R* is exaggerating the impact.
In the past they were pretty cool about mods so I find it sad that this incredibly rich company has changed it's attitude for fear of losing some sales.

Vice City is so good - dont forget its fucking Ray Liotta doing the main characters voice narration.... also 80s music in GTA is my favorite as well

3 is forgettable, so im not sure why thats here... San Andreas is also excellent with the gangsta rap FLAVA

yeh i didnt think the graphics would be any better... but the controls and draw distance updates are enough for me

Who said that the graphics would be close to GTA 5? I know some were expecting more but did you think Rockstar was going to invest years of work and tons of $$$ into new remakes?
They're pretty much swimming in money, so... Yes

Agreed, but that doesn’t mean they’re willing to throw huge amounts of cash at this. I think the lack of significant improvements shows what their sales expectations are. If they thought they could make as much money as their top tier games, the project would have been much more ambitious.

The free fan based remakes they hit with takedown notices looked as good/better. Kind of disappointed.

I'll probably grab it. I started with GTA5 and wanted to see the previous versions. Will depend on what people say about the controls. I'm a stickler for proper keyboard support/binding.
