If you need a lot of bandwidth, it's expensive, since it's a usage based model.

By usage based model do you mean you pay a base rate and then extra for data. Because that's how they used to be (and they still have those plans). But now they have low, medium and high packages and then if you need more data on top of that you can pay more for fast data.
I mean you're still paying for usage but with the higher data plans you're just paying up front.
Burrito was talking about uploading his glamour shots while instagramming the food truck bologna breakfast burrito, I don't upload anything. I download and stream music, news, podcasts, videos etc.

Years ago when you first mentioned Ting they didn't have a plan that fit my needs.
But they have changed. Tings unlimited plan bests the similar offering from cricket wireless. And it also looks better than Mint.
Interesting, my bill has been so low, that I haven't looked to see what else is out there. I happened upon Mint's stuff because Ryan Reynolds is funny.

Bologna? Brother, please. This is Texas. You know, at a minimum, it's bacon if not straight chorizo with my guzzling down the grease dripping out of the bottom of the burrito.

I'm thinking that is temporary while they finish building their own network.

They piggyback on Sprint, T-mobile, and Verizon. I said AT&T below, but I was mistaken.

I am not on Ting. My work phone is on Ting, so it is in work's name.

I have not found the usage to be that big of a deal. I average about 10GB of data a month and that's with fairly heavy usage (lots of tethering when I am not on-site or at home). Tether->VPN->shell or tether->VPN->remote desktop in my case.

Granted, I am not uploading photos of every narcissistic second of my life to Instagram nor posting TikTok videos of me doing stupid shit every thirty seconds, either.

@jd
Used your referral and got a pop up that says I should get a $25 credit so that means you should get your $50 (or $25 if this ain’t your first referral, and if it ain’t should I feel dirty ) credit. Paid $1.08 for them to send me a new sim.

I’m glad to get off of AT&T. Now I’m going to find out that dish network eats babies but I’m perfectly cool with baby eating, they’re delicious.

You Da Man

I've created an account with ting and if for some reason I've done something out of order there is the following;
"I forgot to send my friend the referral link, can I still receive some credit?"
In most cases, we should be able to help you out! Give us a call at 1-855-846-4389 or email help@ting.com and have your friend's email handy. Briefly explain your situation and an Advisor will work on applying the credit to your account.

Thanks jdreyer

That looks like a great phone and I'm definitely going to check out Ting, though I've never heard of it.
I've been on Ting for years. It's great if you mostly use your phone on Wi-Fi. My bill for four devices is about $60 per month. They have great customer service, and leverage ATT, Sprint, and T-Mobile networks. But you have to watch your usage. I have a lot of triggers set up to text us if we get too high, and I've trained the fam to only watch videos on Wi-Fi. If you need a lot of bandwidth, it's expensive, since it's a usage based model. In that case something like Mint would be better. Still usage based, but 4GB is $15/per month per device, or 10GB for $20.

BoP, I will switch to Ting because I’m currently using cricket and am disgusted that they are an AT&T family member, and AT&T as we all know supports draconian voting restrictions and supported the insurrection or at least supports the insurrectionists. https://youtu.be/fwePYaUKLYw

As RedEye correctly stated, you can.

Why the phones go by carrier is due to how those carriers register the phones connecting to their service. Some use SIM cards, some do not, and both have differing authentication methods between them. However, pretty much all LTE capable phones now use SIM cards and not Qualcomm's CDMA authentication.

Were it not for a grandfathered AT&T plan that I have that gives me truly unlimited data with no throttling on my primary phone, I'd probably just go to Ting on it and tell the major carriers to go fuck themselves. Same networks and availability, just lower cost and better customer service. I have an isolated phone for work that is on Ting.

I was looking at a couple of 'unlocked' phones, but they still seemed based on a Carrier Service.
If I understand correctly, you get some shit company's logo, you don't support on bootup.
Yes, you can buy phones directly from the manufacturer.
My phone

note: get the 2020 model in the link, you don't want the 2021 model. (Also it automatically upgraded to Android 11)

The above phone has no carrier affiliations or boot logo's other than Motorola's.

Apple sells unlocked phones as do other manufacturers.
