New Splinter Cell Plans?

A new mainline Splinter Cell game is in development, according to an unconfirmed report on VGC. This revelation is attributed to "development sources" who say this will be an effort to win back fans turned off by mobile and VR installments in the stealthy action series. VGC says it's not clear which Ubisoft studios are working on this, but longtime Splinter Cell studio Ubisoft Montreal may not be involved according to "two people with knowledge of Ubisoft’s plans." The game is reportedly in early production, and an announcement may come next year. VGC says Ubisoft has so far declined to comment on this rumor.

I hated Far Cry 5 and didn't like Far Cry 4 but I am absolutely loving Far Cry 6 and it's ray traced goodness. It's Far Cry but everything feels better to me, especially the map/world design/exploration.

That's good to know. I'm anxious to play 6 in that it reminds me a bit of New Dawn with the crazy looking weapons but brings us back to the tropics. I'm just wondering if I should get now or wait for upgrade. Anyone try it on on a 1070? Obviously I won't get that Ray Tracing goodness...

You might, it's not an RTX-exclusive implementation (obviously, being sponsored by AMD) and they put some fairly tight restrictions in place to keep it performant. It's not at all like Cyberpunk or Control where the entire scene is built from that and looks super realistic, they just used a little bit here and there to add some more detail. The reflections are still primarily screen-space (complete with all the ugly artifacts from people or objects obscuring them), and the change in shadows is almost unnoticeable because the range on them is so short. It's 2021 and AAA games still have their shadows popping in and out of existence around 50 feet away from you... The game looks decent overall, better than 5, but the generational leap hasn't happened yet. Not that I held much hope for that, with the game also shipping for PS4 and Xbone, but the ray-tracing usage disappointed me. They were just ticking a checkbox there.

You might have to play around with the settings because I found having even Ultra Quality Super Resolution or Adaptive Resolution turned on really messes with the quality of the graphics. Pushing the resolution scaling up and keeping everything set to Ultra looks amazing! I mean, it's a light and day difference with all of the bells and whistles and without any AI rendering assistance. Pushed to the max settings the game looks just as good as Cyberpunk in Ultra w raytracing.

I don't use FSR because I agree it looks like shit even on Ultra Quality, but c'mon, you can't seriously compare this game's visuals to Cyberpunk... Preference for art style or setting is one thing, but they're worlds apart, technically.
