I hated Far Cry 5 and didn't like Far Cry 4 but I am absolutely loving Far Cry 6 and it's ray traced goodness. It's Far Cry but everything feels better to me, especially the map/world design/exploration.
That's good to know. I'm anxious to play 6 in that it reminds me a bit of New Dawn with the crazy looking weapons but brings us back to the tropics. I'm just wondering if I should get now or wait for upgrade. Anyone try it on on a 1070? Obviously I won't get that Ray Tracing goodness...
You might, it's not an RTX-exclusive implementation (obviously, being sponsored by AMD) and they put some fairly tight restrictions in place to keep it performant. It's not at all like Cyberpunk or Control where the entire scene is built from that and looks super realistic, they just used a little bit here and there to add some more detail. The reflections are still primarily screen-space (complete with all the ugly artifacts from people or objects obscuring them), and the change in shadows is almost unnoticeable because the range on them is so short. It's 2021 and AAA games still have their shadows popping in and out of existence around 50 feet away from you... The game looks decent overall, better than 5, but the generational leap hasn't happened yet. Not that I held much hope for that, with the game also shipping for PS4 and Xbone, but the ray-tracing usage disappointed me. They were just ticking a checkbox there.
