On Diablo II: Resurrected Server Woes

A post by Blizzard explains the repeated server outages Diablo II: Resurrected has suffered since the launch of the action/RPG remake. This includes the latest outlook on what can be done to set things right. It's a lengthy post, so it starts with a handy summary:
tl;dr: Our server outages have not been caused by a singular issue; we are solving each problem as they arise, with both mitigating solves and longer-term architectural changes. A small number of players have experienced character progression loss–moving forward, any loss due to a server crash should be limited to several minutes. This is not a complete solve to us, and we are continuing to work on this issue. Our team, with the help of others at Blizzard, are working to bring the game experience to a place that feels good for everyone.

I was going to buy D2R but I couldnt quite bring myself to do it after they killed direct tcp/ip. I know they have an obsession over controlling duping and hacks but if people want to do that in a private game who cares? Ladder play always required battle.net. Anyway old D2 is pretty fugly but is still fun to play.

It's not that they can't, it's the fact that they choose to. For there is no profit for said companies when the masses are only playing one game. Hope this sheds light as to the reason D3 turned out to be the CareBear atrocity that it did. If cancel culture can be voted democratically on, top of my list would be Activision. For the love that is all holy on Data Center cloud storage Activision, please do us a favor and cancel D4 while your ahead.

Perfect example why to stop preordering games, right here.

If I posted that sentence in the Diablo reddit, I would probably get banned. Zealots.

Online/Offline single player has been near flawless so far...;) It's quite enjoyable.
It is well known that I cannot err--and so, if you should happen across an error in anything I have written you can be absolutely sure that *I* did not write it!...;)

For anyone not playing, basically this:

Every day for the past week, the servers have gone down for 1+ hours, at almost exactly the same time (9AM EST). Over the weekend it was 4+ hours at a time. There's a lot of speculation as to the cause (dupers DDOSing the servers is a popular idea) but Blizzard has literally said nothing until now about it, just "there's a problem with authentication servers." Every day. For a week.

If you've ever seen the Server Command Room at Bliizzard then ya know this is way bigger then just adding a server. Something is very flawed with the networking code.

Seriously. Didn't they learn anything from WoW's launch? I'm glad I'm not playing D2R. Its open beta was nice.

Just guessing but maybe it was not just the top honchos that left/had to leave ActiBlizz in the last few months but also (some) people responsible for the servers (and other tasks), too.
