Call of Duty Ricochet Anti-Cheat Announced

As promised (threatened?), Activision announces Ricochet, a "robust" new anti-cheat initiative for the Call of Duty series. This will include a kernel-level driver which will come to Warzone in a Pacific Update later this year and to Call of Duty: Vanguard on launch. A kernel-level driver is going to be a privacy red flag for many, so this is addressed: "In its initial rollout on Call of Duty: Warzone, the kernel-level driver will only operate when you play on PC. The driver is not always-on. The software turns on when you start Call of Duty: Warzone and shuts down when you close the game. Plus, the kernel-level driver only monitors and reports activity related to Call of Duty." This trailer accompanies the news, calling Ricochet "a multi-faceted approach in Vanguard and Warzone to combat cheating, featuring new server-side tools, enhanced investigation processes, updates to strengthen account security, and more." Here's word:
The RICOCHET Anti-Cheat initiative is a multi-faceted approach to combat cheating, featuring new server-side tools which monitor analytics to identify cheating, enhanced investigation processes to stamp out cheaters, updates to strengthen account security, and more. RICOCHET Anti-Cheat’s backend anti-cheat security features will launch alongside Call of Duty®: Vanguard, and later this year with the Pacific update coming to Call of Duty: Warzone.

In addition to server enhancements coming with RICOCHET Anti-Cheat is the launch of a new PC kernel-level driver, developed internally for the Call of Duty franchise, and launching first for Call of Duty: Warzone. This driver will assist in the identification of cheaters, reinforcing and strengthening the overall server security. The kernel-level driver launches alongside the Pacific update for Warzone later this year.

Do you think that they [the CoD teams] actually think this is going to work? lol

This will be "hacked" within a day of release, the same way ALL their anti-cheat attempts get immediately beaten.

One of these years the public at large MIGHT start to realize just how pointless it is to expect decency from the average online player. There will never be a "good" multiplayer game because they are, at their very core, flawed. They are dependent on humans to respect other humans, and if you stop and actually pay attention to the world around us, you'd realize that humans aren't capable of this. Most humans, and US americans are some of the worst, care only about their own personal satisfaction.

So i tried Warzone... and geez, people enjoy this garbage?

2042 was average at best, but holy batman... 2042 feels like a masterpiece compared to this.

Valorant uses kernel-level anti cheat, does it actually work to stop cheaters?

what happens in a year when you have 5 different anti-cheat kernel modules installed..

I'm sure somebody will find a way to cheat. After all, you need a client that logs you in and registers your input.
Anyway, inevitably, one (sad) day most of our gaming will be on-line but until then, I'll stick with my hardware.

Rather PollyAnna to think a big greedy corporation that can't resist more profit will put a kernal on your computer that won't slurp up lots of data they can sell.

I can understand why they want to go this route, but the "initial rollout" part of that doesn't exactly inspire confidence that they won't make it run all the time in the future.

In an arms race vs cheat developers, this kind of stuff is inevitable. You need anti-cheat functionality that actually works. "Go play on a dedicated server with some people you trust" while it's a nice option to have, that kind of thing doesn't cut it anymore as the sole form of cheat prevention.

At this point, rampant cheating ruining the game, what other choice do they have but to add more aggressive anti-cheats? I have no problem at all with this on my PC alongside the plethora of other things in our lives that have invaded our privacy - you're dreaming if you think you are unseen in this day and age.

They could allow users to host dedicated servers and have a server browser. Many communities of older multiplayer games would have decent community moderators that would kick/ban cheaters from their servers.

I'll probably stick with SP games, thanks. Played the MP BF2042 demo, got my ass handed to me. Not sure that even un-cheating MP is for me any longer, except co-op, or unless against my brother.

That's one of the reason's I don't play 128 player maps. There is so much chaos and death coming from all directions that it's not enjoyable. Generally that's why I play on 48 or less servers. Lots more dedicated people working as a squad towards goals.

As for the kernel...as long as it is for the game only and I mean not for marketing or anything else then I'm all for it.
Yeah, there was a lot of spawn camping in the demo. Half the time I would be cut down before I took ten steps.

Do you trust Actiblizz enough to allow this on your PC? I wouldn't.
