AMD Radeon RX 6600 Launch

Today is the official launch of AMD's new Radeon RX 6600 graphic cards, and these should now be available individually and in pre-built systems. Of course the ongoing semiconductor shortage will complicate things. Here's the product page showing these are designed to provide "the ultimate 1080p gaming experience." This press release has all the details on the cards and the technology they incorporate:
The Radeon RX 6600 leverages breakthrough RDNA 2 gaming architecture, 32MB of Infinity Cache, 8GB of GDDR6 memory, and other advanced features to provide the performance of an enthusiast-class powerhouse in a midrange solution. Key features include:

  • AMD Smart Access Memory (SAM) – Now supporting AMD Radeon RX 5000 Series graphics, SAM unlocks higher performance when pairing AMD Radeon RX 5000 or Radeon RX 6000 Series graphics with AMD Ryzen 5000 or select Ryzen 3000 Series Desktop Processors and AMD 500-series motherboards by giving AMD Ryzen processors access to the entire high-speed GDDR6 GPU memory.
  • AMD FidelityFX – An open-source toolkit of visual enhancement effects for game developers available at AMD GPUOpen. The new AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) spatial upscaling technology delivers 2X faster performance in “Performance Mode” compared to native 1080p in select titles. To date, game developers have added support or announced plans to add support for FSR in 50 top games and game engines.
  • Microsoft Windows 11 Support – AMD Radeon graphics cards are optimized for the latest Windows 11 performance optimizations and features, including DirectX12 Ultimate, Auto HDR, Microsoft DirectStorage and more.

Yeah, retailers bundling cards with other shit really grinds my gears.

Thanks for the heads up on that Huzar. Geez, I didn't even know you could buy direct from AMD. I'll have to see if I can score me a 6800XT now.

In today's market, $330 for just under RTX 3060 performance at 1080p is a good deal. If you could have snagged one this week at MSRP, it would have been worth it if you needed a 'budget' card. I tried for four of them on the Newegg Shuffle on release day to see if I could get one for a friend looking for a card.

Compared to normal times, yes, all MSRP prices today, even EVGA which is admirably trying to keep their MSRP prices reasonable, is still $100+ too high, and that's before the retailers start marking them up or playing bundle games. But card makers are paying more for everything right now, and that's the way it is until the Great Shortage is over.

I envy people who are able to buy any GPU at MSRP. It's impossible in Poland, the cards are so overpriced it's wiser to invest in a used car instead. I already purchased an insanely overpriced RTX 3060 that barely manages to offer good enough performance at 1080p and I feel terribly dirty now.
If you want give Amd.com a shot. I think they do drops in EU too, but I do not know how big? From what I remember I think they happened on Thursdays too around the same time as US one, but maybe like an hour before (so it would be 3-5PM for you). This was few months ago so might be different now. Powodzenia

As for the RX 6600... it costs more than RX 5600XT and offers pretty much the same performance. Sure, the latter is impossible to buy today, but the fact remains: for the same level of performance, AMD asks a higher MSRP than the last generation card. AMD just uses the opportunity the market allows for - anything will sell as long as it's available. Of course, the current market is screwed up beyond comprehension and these new cards will exceed $700 once the first batch sells out.

Rumors on the web seem to suggest both AMD and Nvidia want to increase the prices of each GPU segment (meaning, an RX 7600 will be even more expensive than the 6600 and cost around the today's MSRP of RX 6700XT), but the performance will also leap forward at least one segment up. The rumors say a card like 7600 or RTX4060 should offer enough performance to allow smooth 4K 60Hz gaming. If this were to happen - I'm fine with that. But with the current generation the suggested retail prices are unjustified (at least for RX6600 and 6600XT), even when taking into consideration all the crap that's happening around the world right now.

The 3080Ti is probably the worst value card ever. It's about 3-5% on average faster than a 3080 in pretty much every single scenario it was tested at.

How in the 666 levels of the Abyss did you get a new card at MSRP? Everything I've seen here at any retailer that's actually in stock is still 100%+ over MSRP.

Started looking for a card for one of my cousins back in October of last year, signed up for any of the EVGA queues I could, then finally was able to grab EVGA 3070 from Best Buy in January for over $500 I think. Then stopped looking but after a while noticed how much I could sell my 1080 GTX for so I started again in March but did not have any luck with Nvidia cards which I would rather get since more games were starting to use DLSS. But with no luck for months, I decided to give Amd.com a shot in early May and within 4 weeks I had the card. At that time at least they had regular drops every Thursday at 10-11am Est (they might still do, but I stopped checking) and was able to grab a 6800 XT on my 4th try (would have been 3rd but my bank messed up the order a week prior). Then over summer more of my cousins wanted cards and finally that's when the EVGA queues started to catch up, got one cousin a 3080 TI last month (it was way too much for me at $1400 but he was willing to pay for it), and for another cousin got a 3070 TI for $850 just few days ago.

EDIT: It appears the AMD.com still has Thursday drops but its random entry instead of first come first serve, but you might still have some luck with it, the tracker stream (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQ7BrgHqhQQ) I used before says last one was at 10/07 at 10:02 AM ET, so I suspect another batch will drop tomorrow, but no guarantees.

Even at MSRP this series is overpriced.

If you compare it to old pricing then absolutely its overpriced, with the current prices though not really. Like I was able to grab a 6800 XT at MSRP, $690 after taxes, while at the same time sold my 1080 GTX for $435 after Ebay fees. Whole difference was like $250.
If I was not able to get that card but was able to get this for MSRP I would have done it, cause I would get a more powerful card then 1080 and still be left with about $100 extra in my pocket.

its an unprecedented time... at this rate, gfx cards will be dead in a few years for anything except pro or industrial machine

That's what I'm saying. How are PC gamers supposed to get their fix when the damn cards are impossible to obtain unless super rich? It's ruined the entire PC gaming industry I feel because if you can't afford a card, you're more than likely not going to buy all the other components needed to do a gaming build... I'm shocked these manufacturers don't realize that but in the end, I guess we know where they stand. Money over the enthusiasts that care.

It'll just mean developers will continue to not work on graphics advancements and people will keep making cartoony games or games that look like they were made in 2012.
