Treads are dinosaur tech, they're just reinforced wheels. A spider could work, but that many legs probably isn't needed for most ground traversal, so why waste power on the extra motors (apparently this dog operates on only 10W) and complicate your balancing act? Then the climbing ability of real spiders has a lot to do with how small they are, both in terms of the relative strength of their legs and how they're able to stick to surfaces. At which point, you're better off using a flying drone, instead.
