FIFA May Become EA Sports FC

Polygon has uncovered a clue to the direction Electronic Arts may take if it follows through on recent indications it may rebrand the FIFA series. It seems EA has filed the title EA Sports FC with both the United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office and the European Union Intellectual Property Office, suggesting this is a possible new title for the association football/soccer series. Here's what the new trademark covers:

Downloadable computer game software; recorded computer game software; downloadable computer game software via a global computer network and wireless devices; downloadable video game software; recorded video game software.

Entertainment services, namely, providing an online computer game; provision of information relating to electronic computer games provided via the Internet.

Football Club. Very common naming convention for the sport that dare not be called soccer.

A football club is a team, soccer is a sport

So really the naming doesn't make sense at all full name EA Sports Football Club is... even more cringe, since EA Sports it's not a "football club" doesn't play in any leagues and has no competition to play against. ehem
