Out of the Blue

So dig this. It was on this date in 1996 that visitors to what had been blue's Quake Rag were introduced to a new domain, and Blue's News was born. So while this site dates back to before that, today is the official 25th anniversary of Blue's News. Let me mark the occasion with some simple gratitude. It's a long shot that this site would still be here in this form after a quarter-century, and that would not be possible without some extraordinary support for this techie little corner of the web. I'll make a particular point of thanking Frans for his amazing efforts, as he's single-handedly saved us from various disasters over the years, and he continues to make things here better all the time. And thank you to Walter "2" Costinak for his amazing artwork. Our logo today is a special one he created for a previous anniversary. Rather than risk omitting anyone, I'll refrain from thanking anyone else specifically, as there is no way to properly single everyone out. But to the so many of you who over the years have contributed coding help, artwork, news tips, corrections, and words of encouragement, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Finally, to the many of you who have chosen to help support the site financially, here's some additional well-deserved gratitude, as it's quite likely the site would not be here without you. Here's to the next 25 years!

Quarter-Century Round-up
Thanks Ant and Neutronbeam.

I wonder how many silent visitors still come here (decades long in my case, till I posted again and not twice a year with a forgotten avatar) .

I never forgot the Flying Penguin, and some others, like Creston -hi man, wherever-.
As for Quinn, now listen here you little friend !, this is a kind of functional family and wouldn't be the same without all (thank the heavens for the patient peace keeping, phew).

There are people here I frankly admire and look up to for their insightful opinions and links.
Others not so much but all the same are often informative and fun.
Love you all you crazy bunch !

BluesNews is a unique.

Thank you Blue and Co for being my #1 go-to gaming news site. I don't remember how I found you, but I did in 2003. Been visiting your site basically daily since then. I immediately loved the site because it is so clean. It's just texts and links and I've loved that since 2003.

The community has always been full of easily triggered and generally unfriendly folk and I wouldnt want to have a live meet-up with most of you even if I got paid for it. =) But its still the best place on the net since 2003 for me.

I'll join supporting you next year, Blue. Promise.
Heh. Out of curiosity, is there another site where you post about politics and such?

I guess what I mean is, sometimes your takes are such that I can't imagine not getting a reaction regardless of where you post.

This is the only site I post at all lol. I dont have time for any other site or community.

My comment was a bit harsh. You among many others are friendly folk <3

just a quick message to thank you for all your work and efforts over the years, i can't remember when i first started using this site, i know if was before quake's launch and think i found you as part of me trying to download the quake shareware (remember shareware) and having been popping back in ever-since, there was a story regarding a child referring to quake as "noise" and there was a visitor counter that reached a milestone (maybe a million visitors), life has got in the way now (im 48) and i don't have time to play many games but still look at your site a few times a week, keep up the good work !

Okay, I went looking down the Internet rat hole, and the most recent mention of 3Fingers I can find, was in 2005 in this article. He was still a spokesman for AMD at the time:

Yeah, I came via Voodoo Extreme as well. Forget exactly why I first started reading Blues, but back then it was all one big happy club of the few people reporting gaming news, passionately like Billy and Blues, or hosting 3D and game tweak guides like me and 3Fingers. Damn, I wonder what ever happened to 3Fingers?
The last post here mentioning him is from 1999. It says he took a job at AMD.

Thanks Blue.
You are welcome. Thank you and everyone else for the kind words and shared reminiscences!

I remember coming here for my daily quake news soon after the switch was made, I think linked from some quake fan page that listed a variety of news sources. This one always stood out to me as clean and easy to digest, plus I enjoyed the bits of humor sprinkled in here and there.

Flash forward all these years later and it's still the first thing that pops into mind when I want to check out general gaming news.

Thanks Blue and everyone who's helped along the way for the many years of information and entertainment. Hard to look at similar sites without yearning for the simplicity here, and the awesome blue/black theme ^-^

No idea how I came to be here. My mind seems to remember being pointed here by VE, but I can't remember for certain. Could have been the other way around. Been the one site I visit daily pretty much ever since. Thanks and congrats Blue!

Wow, I've been visiting here since it was the Quake rag, eagerly waiting for links to .point updates (was that what they were called?). I remember Quake 2 patches announced here and eagerly downloading them on my 33.6 connection. Thanks, Blue. You don't know me, but I've known you for more than 20 years!
