Steam Deck Teardown

A post on Steam promises a look inside Steam Deck. Not content to describe the inner-workings of its upcoming handheld system, Valve includes a video showing a complete teardown. But this is so you don't have to, because the clip starts off with a clear warning: "You shouldn't do any of this." It states that messing around inside a Steam Deck is a risk to both your property and your life. Here's more:
One of the most frequently asked questions we've received about Steam Deck is about the components inside it, and whether they're replaceable or upgradable. The answer is a bit more complicated than just a yes or no, so we've made a video to explain all the details. Spoiler alert: we don't recommend replacing parts yourself, but we still want you to have all of the relevant information about Steam Deck's components.

Anyway, this is the first public look at what's inside the device, so we hope you enjoy it. Let us know whether this is useful information for you as a Steam Deck reservation-holder, and what else you'd like to see in future updates.

Or since I reserved the upper end model, I get to see the reviews AND still decide if I want to keep the reservation, without extra delay by reserving it after reading reviews.

I reserved the upper end as well. For me it's still scheduled for a December release?
You probably got in a little before I did. Mine is Q1 2022. I think December was the very earliest reservations.
Current reservations are sometime last half of 2022.
And who knows, this is valve we are talking about. Delays and valve time could still happen.
PLUS, the global shipping crisis is a thing.

I'm more excited about the Steamdeck than any console since the 16bit era. This is going to be an awesome Christmas for my son and I.
Agreed, my hype level is immense, can't wait to get my hands on it and play everything from Everquest Project 1999, to FTL, to emulated & modded Breath of the Wild, to Risk of Rain 2, and everything in between. Can't wait to see what sort of 3d printed docks people will concoct for it so it can rest next to my monitor when it's in "desktop mode". Customizing the desktop environment, installing Discord and Firefox, it's just gonna be so much fun to use!

It might be better to wait and see the reviews. People were saying the same things about No Man's Sky and Cyberpunk 2077. Remember that?

Yeah and when reviews are good, order it and only wait a year!
Or the reviews are bad, or there are performance problems, but congrats! The Dock is on its way! "Good" times. ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

For anyone that wants to complain about Valve, here's Apple's approach.

Apple is beyond the pale when it comes to third-party repairs. My solution is to get a 2nd or 3rd (maybe 4th) generation older iPhone from the current gen. However, the SE wasn't too expensive (a modern take on the iPhone 5). I'm not ready to move to Android phones. I like IOS's feel and functionality. Android feels "weird" to use, like playing a game where you know there's something wrong with the animation. I guess what I am saying is IOS feels very "polished."

I thought it was interesting. Felt more like a tutorial for "professionals" that want to repair these, possibly for a business. Compare with Apple's approach.

It seemed like the entire point of the video was to tell people they'd better use only official Valve replacement parts (which will likely have a nice markup).

Props to valve for not stickering those scare false lie stickers "will void the warranty if removed"
Because in the USA that's usually not the case by law.
They clearly say in the video "warranty won't cover any damage YOU cause" which is the actual truth.

And they recognized even their pro in the vid got the static strap wrong lol
