Next Week's Battlefield 2042 Beta Confirmed

Here's a quick turnaround on the rumor below: Electronic Arts and DICE officially confirm the schedule for open beta testing of Battlefield 2042. As was speculated, those who've preordered the military shooter can access the beta on October 6th, and everyone else gets to join in two days after that:
Electronic Arts and DICE today revealed that the Battlefield 2042 Open Beta* will be available on October 8 for Xbox® One, Xbox® Series X and S, PlayStation®4, PlayStation®5 and PC. EA Play members and individuals who pre-order the game can gain access two days early on October 6. All players can preload starting on October 5th**

The Battlefield 2042 Open Beta will feature the iconic Conquest experience on the Orbital map, previously showcased in the game’s reveal trailer. PC and next-gen console players will receive first-hand experience of playing the new, epic 128-player battles (64 players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One) through Conquest’s large-scale game mode, and will fight for control of key objective points on the map.

During the Beta, participants will have a chance to jump into the franchise’s signature brand of All-Out Warfare as one of four unique Specialists each equipped with their own individual styles, specialties and traits. Players can step into the shoes of Boris, a Russian engineer who comes with a SG-36; Casper, a South African camouflage and long-ranged attacks expert; Falck, a skilled German medic who specializes in Support; and Mackay, a Canadian outdoorsman and nomad who is equipped with a Grapple Gun.

Set in Kourou, French Guiana, the Battlefield 2042 Orbital map lets players experience a race against time in hostile conditions as they battle around the site of an imminent rocket launch. Sectors found in this map include the Assembly Building, the Launch Platform and the Crawlerway connecting the two. During a Conquest match, players will experience Battlefield’s signature dynamic maps featuring an automated rocket launch sequence, zipline traversal between lightning towers, vehicular combat in adverse weather, including an unexpected tornado event altering the flow of battle, and much more.

**Battlefield 2042 Open Beta Duration

Just having the admin control through Portal being able to kick hackers is a huge improvement/step back in the right direction. Hopefully their anti-cheat actually exists this time, but if not just find some good community run Portal servers with active admins and favourite them like back in the BF4 days. Great way to develop some strong squads and rivalries too >:D

Looking forward to giving the beta a go next week. Especially to test my rig and see how it plays even if it is beta code.

Not going to play the play the open beta because let’s face it it’ll launch as a paid beta. That said I can’t wait to get this game and don’t want to be turned off. I need a new FPS damnit.

I don't get it. So here's the chance for a free open beta (demo) and yet you guys would rather spend $60 while expecting it will be garbage anyway? What? Especially @phinn and the highlighted part... in what universe does that make any sense? Yeeeaaahhh let's stay away from that scary free open beta that might turn one off from the game because blindly buying the game is a much better idea? Wow.

Well, whatever floats your boat. It's your money. I, for one, will surely play the open beta as a free demo, and depending on the outcome, I might sub to EA Play Pro for a month after release. I'm old and can't keep up with the kiddies anyway. Nor do I have the time or the will to sink weeks or months of my life into a rather boring repetitive multiplayer treadmill like BF.
A $14.99 month of EA Play Pro should be more than enough to play as much BF 2042 as I can tolerate. There are too many other (better) games to play anyway.

Oh, I don't think it'll be garbage; I've got a minimum of 100 hours out of every Battlefield game I've ever bought, I'm sure BF 2042 will be at least that much. The DICE videos and unscripted alpha videos look great. I tend to shy away from open or closed betas/alphas though, purely because I don't like putting time into unfinished games, when as you say, there is so much else to play. Plus it's only like 2-3 days? I'll be at work or driving to and from work, the majority of that time. EA Play Pro makes sense financially for most people, I agree, but I can't bring myself to do video game subscriptions yet. I'll buy the digital copy, unless beta/release reviews indicate it's utterly unplayable.

Hackers and release day bugs can't scare me off.

This is why you don't get it. Because there are those of us who play every day and after 2 years of bad duty games and apex/warzone filling with cheaters, we need a new game to play and will pay whatever to get it.

Neither of them said they expect the game to be bad and they're hoping it will be good. You have already decided the game is bad so why would you even bother playing it at all and not wait for a free weekend instead of dealing with a pre release version that will undoubtedly be buggy?

I'm stoked for BF2042 because of the custom game servers... I'll wait to see how it's implemented before buying, but I'm sold if I can have a list of favorite servers with various gameplay configurations.

yes i was there, it was also around the time when I was frequenting Blues News in that era

I remember the first one especially, (and much less with BF2) there was a significant feeling of simulated physics and ballistics to the combat, (leading targets, arcing fire, etc) which has not ever returned IMHO... it was not "real" physics, but BF1942 had a very signature feel to it that is unlike the rest of the series

IIRC there was a vietnam mod back then as well, and it was the ultimate at that time... so good

There will definitely be hackers. AAA FPS game, lots of publicity, it's 2021. Plus the standard Youtuber/streamers and their followers Not cheaters per se, but of course some are good(or even great) players and then all of a sudden there's 10 engineers standing around all day repairing their tank or helo, which is about as bad. That's the FPS landscape these days. It'll also have thousands of servers, and dedicated anti-cheat and reporting, so I'm still interested in giving it a go.

Because when Battlefield is good, it's really good. Conversely it can be aggravating as fuck, but still.

PUBG playerbase has dwindled even though it’s still the best BR by far with friends, and played through the new Steam release of Quake already. BF2042 here I come!

I really wish I could get excitement back for this franchise. I was one of the original who bought BF1942 in 2002 and thought it was one of the best multiplayer experiences back then. It was so grand scale in comparison to everything out at that time.

Since then, I obviously picked up BF2, BF3, heard Vietnam was trash, skipped it. Skipped 2142 and basically everything else that has come out since. I've tried Bad Company single player briefly. It was Okay but at times felt too arcadey with unlimited respawning guys. I then tried BF One online briefly. It felt a tad too deathmatchey to me. In that guys were everywhere, nearly at respawn and you're dead.

In the original BF series, I felt it ran a tad slower pace which in turn gave it a more realistic feel. You can move for a bit prior to seeing someone, so the feeling of an encounter was greater. I guess there is the pro and cons to that. If they wanted to compete with COD, they had to be more deathmatch style with less waiting on encounters, but then that reduces any chance of realism. Oh well, just my Battlefield rant, lol.
